How to Get Subtitles for Parts of Movie Not in English?

Could any kind person point me to some instructions on how to rip the subs that appear when characters in an english movie temporarily start speaking a different language for blu rays and dvds? For example, True Blood is an American TV show in English, but sometimes in flashback sequences, it will be in Swedish. When I watch the blu/dvd the subs automatically appear only for those sequences. How can I get those for my mkvs? I don't want the whole episode's subs, just the bits that appear when the characters stop speaking english.

Thanks for any help, I've spent a fair amount of time looking for an answer.

Edit: I should mention that I dont want to edit the srt file with all of the subtitles in notepad to get only the subs I want because that would ruin plots pretty quick. cheers.

You're dealing with one of two things, and I'll limit my remarks to Blu-Rays. Since I haven't dealt much with DVDs for a while, lest I give you bad information, someone else should comment on them:

1) Hardcoded subs that are part of the picture itself. They are encoded into the picture and are not removable (as a practical matter); whatever was behind them is gone forever. An example of this, IIRC, would be the Lord of the Rings movies on Blu-Ray, when Elvish is spoken.

This type would be easy, no action required on your part. You're gonna have them regardless.

2) Forced subtitles. These are commonly embedded in another subtitle stream, and I've never seen one that is a separate subtitle track. They have a "force flag" telling the player to display them always. Avatar, for example, has forced subs.

These you can identify and extract using BDSup2Sub. (Guides available at the BDSup2Sub page.)

One way to go about this is to extract main movie with Clown_BD. Specify demux and remux folders. De-select all subs except English (keep all of them) and output a new movie-only BD folder. In the demux folder, there will be demuxed English subtitle tracks. Open them in turn with BDSup2Sub to find the forced subs. Extract the forced subs without any conversion and retain the force flag.

In the remux folder, open the playlist file (*.mpls) in tsMuxer. De-select all subtitle tracks and "ADD" the extracted forced sub track. Mux to a new Blu-Ray folder. You now have a new movie-only Blu-ray folder with only the forced subs.

From this point, convert to MKV with whatever you like, making sure the forced subs are set to automatically display. Or hardcode them.

Try subscene.com or some other sub site & see if they have the subs for your film.

im not saying this is always the case but for every decent budget movie ive seen (maybe budget doesnt matter) but if the directors intent was for you to understand what they are saying then it should be hardcoded into the film like fritzi said if not then you will have to find the subs elsewhere and probably rely on a fan for the translation...just saying but good luck!
