  1. I have an HP laptop i'm trying to get running. When you press the power button, all the lights are lit, but nothing comes up. I am thinking it is the PSU because the fans dont seem to be running. I tried to open it up to get to the PSU, but that is a ridiculous task. After taking out about 20 screws I never could get the top completely off. I pulled the HDD out, powered it up...nothing. I pulled the RAM out one stick at a time, powered it on...nothing...same for the DVD drive and the modem. So my only two guesses are bad PSU or the screen is out. I have a flatscreen TV that I hooked the laptop up to and wasn't able to get a display on it either, so I assume the screen is fine...

    Any ideas?

Try to remove the battery, and attach the charger unit.
If that doesn't work check the charger unit for correct working.

If that doesn't work either i'll join aedipuss answer

This is probably the nVidia card. It needs to be "reflowed" -- costs about $75.
Or "refloated" as the HP tech said. (Dumbass.)

You didn't give the HP model number.

First thing would be disconnect from mains and remove the battery ... then hold down the power button for 30 seconds ... then reinsert battery and connect to mains and try powering it up again ... some sort of bug that affected some hp models.
