Ok i have a time sensitive dvd burning issue...I have a backup copy of a video that was made for me by a friend in europe. Its on dvd+r media and plays correctly in my standalone dvd player.. I need to make a copy of it for another friend...When i place it in my drive it sometimes does not even recognize it being in there. On occasion when it does, ive run it thru imgburn which comes back as "failed sectors bad" error..I run it thru anydvd ripper it says same thing(generally speaking). I have tried dvdfab devddecrypter and any other ripper i can find it just will not rip all the way thru..Ive even used converter to try and convert the videots to an avi and always comes back with some sort of error... Ive also tried just copy and paste from my computer and it will not rip..im at my end on this and my friend is patiently waiting on this video..any help is appreciated and if anyone needs more info please ask as i will be hawking this forum for an answer thanks for your time.

not much you can do. it has bad unreadable sectors, the standalone only plays it because there is enough data and error correction on sub tracks it can skip the bad spots. get a new copy.

If you use DVDFab it may EVENTUALLY rip the whole thing. It will keep trying forever so eventually it may be able to get past the bad spots. But it could take 8 hours or a full day or even two days depending on how bad the problems are. If you have access to another computer with a DVD drive you may find that another drive may be able to read the disc better and will take less time to rip it than using your current PC which is obviously having a lot of problems with this disc. Note that I can't guarantee you that DVDFab will eventually get the whole thing, but if you can afford to let it keep trying you may eventually get it ripped.
If you are able to get it ripped, please reburn it to good media so you don't have this issue again. In North America the ONLY consistently reliable media is Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim (everything but their cheap Life series). Those are good brands in Europe and Asia too but in Europe you may possibly have one or two additional trustworthy discs. In the past Sony in Europe was actually excellent but I don't know if they still use the top manufacturers any more or not. They mostly do not for discs sold in North America which is why they aren't recommended. -
Hi tyder26,
I am going to take a shot in the dark ... take that DVD and look on the back and see if you see any "Scratches" even if they are very small ... and if you can guesstimate that is when ImgBurn chokes on Sector reading ... then that is your problem ...
But also , I have to warn you ... there might some "Bad" sectors that are not result of Scratches but just a crappy media ... that your substrate has broken down ...
But if it is a Scratch ... I have successfully Buffed it out enough so that ImgBurn can rough it's way thru reading the Sector or like redwudz suggested the ISOBuster ... I have used Toothpaste that has Baking Soda in it ... in straight strokes from Center to the edge of the DVD rub the back of DVD ... till you have polished the the entire DVD ... clean with water and dry with soft cloth ... yeah I know ... 1) It is messy 2) finished product looks Duller than before you started with it ... but it worked for me.
Post back your result!
