  1. Hi,
My goal is to convert a .mkv 1080p file to play on the PS3 keeping it's DTS audio track.

    File info:

    Matroska: 7.94 GiB, 1h 42mn
    1 Video Stream: AVC
    1 audio stream: DTS
    1920x800 (2.40:1), at 23.976 fps
    High@L4.1

    English, 1 510 kbps, 48.0kHz, 24 bits, 6 channe, DTS

I have tried using MKV2VOB. I tried to create a AVCHD the end result: No picture but audio worked fine.

I also tried to create a file with dts using MKV2VOB, this created a video file with no sound.

I have also used multiAVCHD 4.1 to create a AVCHD but got the same results.

Can anyone help me with this please.

Ps3 won't play dts if you are putting the files on a usb or external drive with usb,dts only works if you author the files as blu-ray or avchd and burn to disc.

  3. Thanks for your response,

Was hoping converting to .VOB would allow a .dts file.
Is there a reason why I get a black screen when converted to AVCHD? And is there a solution to this?

Usually a black screen means either the file was authored improperly or its not avchd compliant or it's a pal video which can't be played on a ntsc ps3 or vice versa.

  5. I have a PAL PS3, is there a work around if it is because of region?

I thought I changed the video to PAL using multiAVCHD. Other than that is there a way to check if the file should be AVCHD compliant?

Load the m2ts file from the avchd folder in multiavchd and it will show you the properties under media and the properties tab,for pal it should be 1920x1080 framerate 25fps,if not then you need to make sure you set the "apply pal speedup for ntsc content" in the settings tab.

  7. Well according to Multiavchd the video is not AVCHD/BMW compliant. Does that mean there is no way to get this working?

To get it working set multiavchd to re-encode since it's not compliant.

  9. It took 6 hours and the picture worked but for some reason the audio was converted to AC3, I can't find the option to leave the audio. I unchecked 'use eac3to' under audio conversion settings, I thought that would be enough.
Is there another option for audio conversion?

You can keep the Use EAC3to box ticked so long as the boxes under it are unticked. If the audio is compliant, it should remain unchanged.

The audio will get converted since it has to be speeded up,no way around that.

  12. oh yeah, darn it! I guess the answer is there's no way to do this with a non compliant file.

If I only I could convert it to another container that allows DTS playback

  13. here is a simple way use tsmuxer gui load the tracks in and make a m2ts file. then burn with imgburn. but u can't burn it as an image u have to select the files and folder option. this will also keep cinavia from kickin in. but u have to have a surround sound that can convert dtsthis is why ur gettin picture but no sound with some of the programs. the programs ur using and getting sound that's because mkv2vob transcodes the audio

PAL PS3s happily play NTSC footage, so there is no need to convert or alter the speed. All you need to do is re-encode to get a compliant frame size.

I agree with guns1inger; it is a compliant frame size issue.

My personal preference is to use uncropmkv (this is the encoder within multiavchd) to re-encode for 'compliant' reasons and then use tsmuxer as avchd output.

I have a PAL PS3 and yes, it does play NTSC avchd with DTS.

You must stress which media format you are trying to play this from, i.e. USB, external HD or media disc. As with the 1st 2 options, the PS3 will not allow playback of DTS via usb or HDD.

  17. MKV2BOB, when it works, allows DTS to be played via UBS I have managed this, but only on a couple of occasions.

Dude - when it takes 6 hours to do a conversion and you're going to do this more than maybe one more time in your life, it's time to stop wasting your time with this conversion bs and just buy a media player like the Western Digital or other similar models, do no conversions and play the file as it is, and get on with your life. Of course if you place no value at all on your spare time and you enjoy beating square pegs into round holes, then by all means continue down this path.
