    Hi everyone, I am not that IT literate but as I had a severe fiery aircraft accident 3 years I am quite physically disabled and am limited mostly to a comfortable lounge chair.

    I now have a project to keep me out of mischief!!! I am converting my VHS, video8, Hi8 etc to DVD, editing through a PVR.

    I would love a 8mm tape VCR in PAL for playback to save the heads on the camcorder but they are few and far between. NTSC VCRs are freely available on line. If I had a NTSC VCR how would I convert the output signal to PAL?

    Aussie Paul

    You need to explain that better. I have no idea what you are saying. An NTSC 8mm tape or an NTSC VHS tape?

    Oops, better start again!!! I have confused myself!! I want to convert 8mm PAL to DVD without having to use my 8mm PAL camcorder.

    I realise now that I WOULD need a PAL VC. A NTSC VCR would be of no use to me. Sorry about my confusion.

    Where can I find a 8mm PAL VCR???? Ebay seems to only have NTSC.

    Aussie Paul.

    I simply don't understand two thing(maybe more):
    1. What's wrong with using your camcorder ONE MORE TIME so you can record or capture the tape?
    2. Why would you want to do the "almost" impossible of converting PAL to NTSC when you live in a PAL country?

    Yes, I had it back to front. For some silly reason I imagined putting the PAL tape into a NTSC vcr and thinking the signal would come out as NTSC so I would have to the change the NTSC. I have made a considerable error in thinking!!!!! Embarrassed myself considerably!!!! Bugger!!

    Ok, I will use the camcorder as I have just had new heads installed. I am getting quite a bit of business from family and friends and camcorder heads are getting harder to find if I wear them out.

    Never mind, thanks for the persistence to get my head around my mistakes. I love forums.

    I'd look for a used camcorder on Ebay. With everyone shooting digital now they should be a steal.
