I have a Canon XH-A1. The standard mic was damaged, so I have been using an external XLR mic. I have the XLR plugged into CH1 and the XLR attachment option is turned on. It's also set on "MIC" instead of "LINE". When recording the CH1 audio meter is showing it's picking up sound. Even when I play the tape back on the camera the audio meter shows audio data, yet no sound plays. After I transfer to my PC, the video files have no audio. What am I doing wrong here?

Should work. Try Ch2.
See manual p 47-50 for all the settings

can you export just the second stereo channel interleaved with the video? or do you need to export with 4-channel at 96 kbit/s per channel? don't know if any capture programs accommodate 4ch in HDV.
