  1. Hi Guys,

I have been trying to salvage a corrupt CamStudio AVI recording (4.00 GB - recorded with CamStudio Lossless Codec) using MediaCoder after finding a post of a similar issue:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/267852-Trying-to-Fix-a-Huge-Corrupt-avi-File!

On that thread a reply from the user Tenderfoot, suggests using MediaCoder because he/she had some success in playing his own corrupt file from CamStudio.

I went on to download the latest MediaCoder, both the normal and 64-bit versions. What I then found was quite strange.

Ony my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1) with the normal version I can play the video, though unseekable, which would otherwise be impossible to do on any other player on the system such as MPC, VLC or even VirtualDub. However, when I come to start transcoding it, it brings up the error code 014 and stops the operation. The same thing happens with the 64-bit version of MediaCoder.

On my desktop (Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2) the normal version seems to start transcoding and then brings up the following message: http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/6186/mediacodererror.jpg .

When I click 'Yes', the program tries to continue but eventually brings up the same message again. Now, when I click 'No', the error 014 comes up again. In the 64-bit version, the program brings up the error straight away, without attempting to transcode at all.

Does anyone know what I could do, maybe certain settings in MediaCoder?

Has anyone else had a similar problem with CamStudio files?

Does anyone know of any alternative ways or programs with which I could try and save and fix my file?

Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. My main aim is to be able to view the video outside of the program as well as to seek forwards and backwards in it too.

Note: When I try to play it through VirtualDub, it manages to play a short 45 second clip of the whole video (roughly 44 minutes long), and in MediaCoder, though it can play the whole video, it seems to start at a frame near the end of the video, then returning to another chunk near the start of the video, i.e. the file just seems to be a bit jumbled up.

  2. Whenever I try to use MediaCoder to create MPG or MP4, the file won't play and I get this error:

    No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format " ". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

I have now managed to encode almost half of the video using Handbrake. Which leaves me with either an .mp4 or .mkv which I can seek through which is great news and although isn't the entire video, it gives me hope.

Strangely enough, in MediaCoder, when I leave the video to play, it comes up with 5 minutes or so more footage compared to the footage converted by Hanbrake.

All progams so far have also recognised that the video is more than 43 minutes long, so it would be amazing if anyone can think of a way or program which I could try to salvage the entire video.
