There may be no links, but that first post there says "...several of us have been sending firmwares out to members." There should be a way to contact those members via PM, email, etc. and ask if they'll send the firmware needed. The author of that first post recently posted in May 2011 in a different thread.

Just happened to notice CCRomeo has posts at the link in my post #27 above. You might send PM to him at http://club.myce.com/member.php?u=122915 to see if he might know if those firmwares are still available, and he might be able to get you what you seek if they are still available.

i just purchased a lvw-5045 on ebay.
i read your post about eliminating macrovision from the firmware with interest.
my question is does the hack remove macro to copy dvds as well or only from vhs?
would be nice to copy a protected dvd in order to archive to the HDD.

Hi 71chevyvan, short answer, yes it will, real time recording, not direct dubbing.
Go to this site (hopefully the link is still good), http://www.twowheels.force9.co.uk/liteonus.htm, dowload the 5045 (US) hacked file and burn (not copy) to a disc and update the 5045. The 5045 will now be: 1- Region Free, 2- MV hacked and 3- ability to replace/insert HDD up to 500GB.
I tried to open the link and couldn't so I found the appropriate file for you here, https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/244693-Upgrade-Liteon-lvw-5045-to-400G-successfully, page 6, post 160 and download/burn the 197 .rar file.
People to thank are: MikeB (larger HDD hack, UK), Bithead9 (larger HDD hack, adjusted for the US model) Mr. Wizard (MV and Region Free hack).
I own several Liteon (and clones) maybe a dozen alltogether and applied hacks to all of them.
Cheers

[QUOTE=CrazyCanuck;2185213]Hi 71chevyvan, short answer, yes it will, real time recording, not direct dubbing.
crazycanuck.
your answer is, i won't be able to digitaly transfer contents of a protected DVD to internal HDD and then burn to a dvdr?
i already have many dvd players that are mv free but transfer is in real time and analog .
otherwise a computer is the better way to go.
most macro free posts don't mention they are refering to vhs not dvd. bummer

Correct, real time-analog to the HDD, then you can edit/burn to disc, no direct dubbing from the drive to the hardrive. Another not so well known fact is that a hacked liteon dvd recorder works as a MV-free dvd player. The computer route is the only way for digital transfers.
