If this is not the right place for this post please let me know where I might find help.
I am trying to use an LCD TV display as a digital menu board in a restaurant. My plan is a simple stand alone system where I put a JPEG file on a thumbdrive and plug it into the TV.
Today as an experiment, I loaded a thumbdrive and went to the local video store.
Samsung was the only TV that would read the file and where it looked good.
Sony and LG would not read the fle. Toshiba read it but with very poor quality
Panasonic would show the image in a thumbnail but not read it when selected.
Any ideas about why this is happening. Are not all JPEGs created equal. FYI, I tried differrent thumbdrives to make sure that wan't contributing to the issue.
Thanks for the help,
David

What program did you use to create that menu jpg file? and how did you do that? Most restaurant menus have lots of text and jpg's are best used for photos of objects. Text can be done in jpg but may look fuzzy if not done correctly. I would have created the menu using a pdf create program. Or do it in word and make a pdf from that. PDF files are almost universal. Most computers come with a pdf reader (adobe reader). Most restaurant menu's change often. So make it easy on yourself by using my method.

Also try to create the file at the native resolution of the TV. At native resolution all it has to do is display it, if the resolution is different it will have to resample it and that may be beyond the capability of some TVs. Good starting sizes to try would be 1920x1080 or 1080x576. If you can, avoid progressive encoded JPGs (ones that start fuzzy then gain clarity as the file loads) as this may also be beyond the TVs capability.

Not all JPG files are created equal. There are normal and progressive JPGs. Grayscale and truecolor. YUV 4:1:1, 4:2:2, and 4:4:4 (chroma subsampling).

That is correct jagabo and a good point to note. That's another reason to use PDF's for restaurant menu display on a LCD monitor.
