Hello everyone! This is my first thread, so don't judge me. JK.

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R100, and compared to my Sony Handycam DCR-DVD105, I am very pleased with this device. I still have to work out some kinks though, and thought you all could help.

Now it may be a trick of the eye but it seems like turning off the "Auto Slow Shutter" gives me a faster frame-rate that is especially noticeable in PF24. This also goes for the image stabilizer, which also seems to reduce noise when it is off. Is this correct?

Also, I don't get the "flicker reduction." I thought it would be like a computer screen, but when I aim the camera at the computer screen with the reduction on, it flickers more. What is up up with that? Is this only for certain light source sources? Am I correct in assuming that having this on also reduces frame-rate when it is on?

Basically my goals are as follows:

1. Best night-vision. I would love for the camera to be able to pick up something like a star as best as it can.

I love the fact I get many, many more colors at night with this than the Handycam, but the Handycam, as old as it is, still gets a better frame-rate. It also doesn't make something like a star in the sky turn into a diamond. I'm hoping there is a way around this.

2. Best frame-rate. This is especially important for me with night modes.

It might also help to know which settings would give me the WORST results.

Thank you!
