  1. After I ripped and encoded the movie to vcd on playback I was getting a popping and intermintent(sp) sound quality. Iv'e ripped others and had not had the problems.. encoding back to mpeg1 or mpeg 2.. Do certain movies have audio that is not conducive to ripping and encoding.
    what could be my problem!
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.
    thanks

  2. hmm, lots of people have had this problem but since i have never, its gonna be hard to answer but i can think of things to check.

Whatever the Hz frequency u use to encode, change it

IE- if u encoded using 48000 switch to 44100
or, if u used 44100, switch to 48000

Do this by doing this instead of encoding whole movie again-
import audio file from source video, choose system audio, go to settings change frequency, encode, then go to file, mpeg tools, simple multiplex.

Choose same stream u encoded the movie, for video, import the vid u encoded recently, for audio, import the new mpg audio file u just encoded then hit run

Everyday is another payday and I am one step closer to becoming the one.

  3. Some encoders have problems with certain audio sources. If you are trying to encode the audio from a source such as mp3 (most DivX files use mp3's for audio), I suggest you use an external audio encoder like Toolame to encode the audio in the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file. TMPGEnc, for example, gives you the option to use an external audio encoder if the one included doesn't give you the quality you want to achieve. TMPGEnc doesn't work too nicely with mp3 audio sources.

  4. Did the original (DVD I assume) have a moderate to slight scratch?

  5. No scratches.. I first tried to make a svcd to dvd and used tmpg to seperate channels. I merged using mydvd then had popping. I thought that I had screwed that up and deleted it and then started over re ripping and then encoding with divx. I think I am going to try changing the KH like 1st reply.
    that may work.

I'm still pretty new at this

Just a thought. If my hard drive was pretty fragmented could that be the culprit.
    thanks

  6. I had this same problem whenever I encoded VCDs using TMPGEnc 2.02. My source files are Huffyuv compressed avi's captured with VirtualDub.

If I used avisynth to open large files into TMPGEnc, the sound would be fine, however if I opened up the file directly in TMPGEnc, the sound would have occasional popping. Since 2.53 now (finally) supports large avi's, that is, the sound no longer drops out after a certain amount of time, I've been experimenting using my avi's without avisynth. As it turns out, not only is the sound dropping issue resolved, but the sound popping issue is also gone.

Things are not 100% perfect though, 2.53 has issues with producing the occasional garbage frame. This is especially bad if my source avi is compressed with PICVideo MJPEG. I must use avisynth in that case. Files compressed with Huffyuv are less prone to this but I've noticed the occasional garbage frame does still appear. A recent test involved a 1 hour tv cap using Huffyuv. There was 1 scene with a couple bad frames.

For now, I'm using avisynth and feeding it to 2.53. It's less convenient than opening it directly, but the results are at least predictable.

  7. Defrag before you rip, and defrag before you make your output file and then defrag after you delete all the source files.

  8. could be the source....

i.e. when i ripped Deep Impact and used dvd2avi to extract the .wav, i use the defult track 1. however, it was only 192 kbits. when i encoded the movie with this track, it had some crackling during loud, motion scenes. i redid the movie and choose track 2. it was 448 kbits. the crackling was gone.

should it might be the source....if the kbits of the audio track is too low....choose another higher-quality track

  9. OK, I am having the same problem. I have the xtasy everything 5564. I capture to mpeg1, and used all the defaults. These include, stereo 224 kbit/sec stereo. Windvr doesn't give you the option of changing the sampling rate, ie: 44.1 or 48 khz. I changed the video bit rate from 1120 to higher rates to improve picture quality. To try to fix the audio popping, I tried raising and lowering the bit rate. Lowering to 192 worsened it. Raising to 320 almost removed it completely, but not totally. Also, WinDvr gives several audio format choices, such as stereo, joint stereo, multi channel and mono. When I changed it to multi channel 320 kbit/sec, it caused the sampling to go to 48khz automatically. This is no good for VCD. I do think that the defragging idea effects this, because it was better after defragging, but not gone. Also, I have a very slight but noticeable synchronizing problem with the sound. I have purchased a better sound card but this did not help. I started with an onboard creative, then sound blaster live value, now a crystal chipset external 120 dollar card. None of these effected the popping sound. This is a software issue. I burn my vcd's with Nero 5.5.6.4. Some have said the burning software can cause problems. I am at a loss to give a definite answer.
