    Hi
A friend gave me an older Yamaha TV [TxP2734] that has video component in - should I look at getting an hdmi to component cable set in order to play from my HD mediaplayer [Patriot Box - HDMI and Composite Out] or will I just get the same quality using rca composite cables

    TIA

  2. That's a standard def TV right? HDMI to component will get you a slightly better picture. But it's probably not worth it.

Save your money for a new TV.

    Hi jagabo

Yeah, it just SD - I did try my DVDPlayer with component - it worked - hard to tell if it was better than composite or s-video
My mediaplayer just has hdmi and composite - I was looking at http://www.dinodirect.com/HDMI-to-Component-Video-with-Stereo-Audio-AV-Cable-1M.html?c...r=CAD&AFFID=67

  4. That cable won't work unless your player supports component at the HDMI port -- that's very uncommon. Check your player manual. Here's a similar cable at Amazon:

Notice all the 1 star reviews? My guess is most of the reviews at dinodirect are fake.
