Please forgive the lenght of this post.

I purchased Steig Larson’s Trilogy, “The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest," from Amazon.com.

    Initial request below:

None of the disks will play the movie. The disks start; show the previews of other movies but when the movie starts it won't play. No matter what button I hit on my remote an error message appears stating, "operation not possible." I have a Sony DVD Model No. DVP-NC800H, a Harmon Kardon Receiver Model AVR 40, and a Vizio vw32l-1.5A-60/50Hz TV. I live in upper New York State. Is there a way I can get these movies to run on my components? I have read the trilogy and would love to see these movie

I sent the below letter about my order. Amazon responded by sending me another Trilogy. It does the same thing as the first one. I asked them not to send me another. Instead why not answer my question, i.e. how do I get the movies to play on my DVD?

    Amazon has not responded.

Does anyone know what I must do to get them to play on my DVD. They do play on my MacBook Pro but not my Son DVD.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

You live in upper New York St? I'm leaning towards that being the problem. Try moving to Vermont. DVD compatibility is much better there.
    Have a good one,

He says the disc plays movie previews. If the DVD was PAL, wouldn´t the whole disc be PAL?, where would be the logic of releasing a commercially pressed DVD with mixed standards?

  6. Do your movies go to the menu screen? If they do, see if they have a scene selection. If they do, try selecting the first scene.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

There are no NTSC orPAL references on the box or DVD cases.
I love VT but am a life long New Yorker with both parents being born in The City (Brooklyn and The Bronx) and before moving to upper NY State I worked in the big Apple.
The movies do not go to the screen on my Sony DVD but I can get a screen selection on my Apple MacPro Book and can run them there.
I haven't checked the parental control option, I don't know how to do so and could use some help here.
I am on my way to check out thr recommended web sites for help, i.e. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...teamnum=166011 and http://folding.stanford.edu/, I'll get back to you on the results.

Again thanks to all, when I get it fixed I'll let you know.
