Or use the old good vcdgear to extract it to a standard mpg.

You probably don't want to, if you want a reliable video file from a VCD.
As Baldrick says, use VCDGear, or ISObuster.

  5. Actually I don't want to get to the avseq01.dat file as easly as I possibly as can, I want to know how to get there manually. When I right click and click 'open' only the avi file appears. I want to know how to access the .dat file and navigate and see the mpegav directory.

Explain what you are doing -- get where from where?

avseq01.dat is a file found on a VCD disk, which contains an MPEG1 video.
There are no AVI files on VCDs.

And you are sure it exists a mpegav folder?

It could be some kind strange protection that hides the folders. Try then open the drive using isobuster(free version) and see if it finds the mpegav folder.

  8. okay, when I open the disk, (right click cd icon > click open) / double click cd icon, explorer opens, and the file on the cd is Horrible Bosses, jokes, its Fast Five.avi, the file extension is .avi, which plays okay. But I want to know if there's a way I can copy the file using Windows Explorer, I mean, what does that mean. How does one copy a file using windows explorer. I'm just seeking knowledge. I can copy and paste the file, but I want to know about avseq01.dat files as well as mpegav directories on vcd. Is there any web link you can refer me to?

Assuming the disc is not somehow COPY PROTECTED:

Just do a regular copy+paste (either by Drag+Drop, Rightclick/Copy+Rightclick/Paste, commandline, whatever).

In the section that you're seeing it, it's just a standard computer file (AVI) in a standard filesystem (ISO9660, Joliet, UDF). Easy as pie!

VCDs are a slightly different matter.

The AVSEQ##.DAT files actually aren't FILES, they are pointers/links to separate TRACKS (similar to Audio CD tracks). That's why, to copy them correctly, you need to use a RIPPING app that understands Mode2XAForm2 sectors, and can remove the extraneous data before saving to your Harddrive.
Use VCDGear, ISOBuster (extract MPEG2 tool), or VCDEasy for the best VCD track rips.

In a true VCD, AVSEQ##.DAT files will ALWAYS be in the MPEGAV folder just off the root.
