  1. I have Divx movie with subtitles. Subtitles are in the .sub file. I would like to make permanet subtitles for movie with virtualdub. My problem is that when I try to open the .sub file in subtool to convert it to .srt subtool gives an error message: The selected file is not a subtitle (or is an uknown format). I have tried other software like subadjust, MaestroSBT, substudio. All these progs refused to open it. The subtitles work fine in Windows Media player with VobSub 2.09 installed. Can anyone help me, pls ?

    Several subtitle tools use the *.sub extention. First you have to figure out which tool was used to create that sub file. Can you open it with a text editor? Do you want to convert to MPEG?

  4. There is also .idx and .ifo file in the movie directory.I opened .idx with text editor. Here is a part of it...

    # VobSub index file, v5 (do not modify this line!)
    #
    # To repair desyncronization, you can insert gaps this way:
    # (it usually happens after vob id changes)
    #
    # delay: [sign]hh:mm:ss:ms
    #
    # Where:
    # [sign]: +, - (optional)
    # hh: hours (0 <= hh)
    # mm/ss: minutes/seconds (0 <= mm/ss <= 59)
    # ms: milliseconds (0 <= ms <= 999)
    #
    # Note: You can't position a sub before the previous with a negative value.
    #
    # You can also modify timestamps or delete a few subs you don't like.
    # Just make sure they stay in increasing order.

    Then it is made by vobsub. Check the VirtualDub\plugin subdirectory whether you have installed vobsub_vd.vdf. If not reinstall vobsub and select the custom mode instead the typical mode. Check "vobsub for VirtualDub".
    Start VirtualDub, open the divx, go to video > filters > add vobsub. Then a configuration dialog will appear. Press Open and select the *.sub file. You may change the colour or position of the subs if you like.
    Preview to see whether you are happy with the settings.
    After that frameserve to your favorite encoder.
