  1. I'm using SmartRipper to pull the files off the DVD, then DVD2AVI to make it ready for TMPGEnc to encode to an MPG.

However, when I download dvd rips off the net they're in a single 700Mb AVI (which I have to split).

Does anyone know how to rip a dvd straight into a 700Mb (or thereabouts)???

  2. The DVD rips that you usually get off the net are actually Divx encoded AVIs. Someone ripped the DVD, then encoded it into MPEG 4 format using a Divx codec. They're usually encoded to be around 700mb so you could burn one movie onto a single CD in Divx format to watch on your computer.

I don't think you can rip a DVD straight to 700mb (they're usually a couple of gigs). If you wanted, you could encode them into a 700mb Divx file, then convert it to an mpg, but that would just be an unecessary step.
