  1. Hi,

I create a SVCD MPEG File via DVD2AVI and TMPGenc from a ripped DVD. Worked fine (took ages...). Now I have a 1.1. Gig MPEG file that I can drop into Nero SVCD Project and it says everything is cool. Except it is wayy to long.

I cannot open the file in anything else. I tried the MPEG Tools in TMPGenc, Panasonic MPEG, bbMPEG, you name it... they all give error messages...

    My questions:
    1) Is this normal?
    2) How can I cut it if nothing lets me edit that file?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi,
this behaviour is not normal. If you have created a valid SVCD(MPEG2), you should be able to edit or cut it.
Try to demultiplex it and then remultiplex it (then cut).
Or try to cut it when it is demultiplexed (with TMPGEnc).
The last chance is to try Womble.
    Otherwise you have to reencode
    Hope that helps!
    Post the Errormsg!

  3. Thanks for your reply. Here are the results :

Cut & Join (TMPGenc) : No error message. When I double click on the file (to see it) it doesn not display a thing. I can't play anything. If I enter the seconds manually, it creates a file but Nero rejects it(unlike the big file, which is too long)

Demultimplex (TMPGenc) : Works! It detects three streams, padding, audio and video. What should I do?

One program I have not tried before was FLASK. FLASK can read it, any chance I can cut with it?

I have deinstalled the Panasonic MPEG, it said something about cannot read time frame (?!). bbMPEG just said invalid file...

If I demultiplex it, cut it and remultiplex it, will I get sync problems? What's best practive for next time? Cut the AVI file before that? The problem is, I usually convert directly from DVD to MPEG file...

  4. 1st AVI Cutting: You dont have to cut the avi. Load the DV2 in TMPGEnc and then go to Settings, Advanced Tab, Source Range. There you can encode the first part and then the second.
BUT thats all normally not necessary. If the result MPEG is valid, you can demultiplex, multiplex and cut it. There should be no probs.
2nd: Try to demultiplex the video and audio stream, and then multiplex with bbMPEG.
3rd: You cant cut with FLASK. You can reencode with it.
4th: You wont get sync probs when you cut demultiplexed streams, but you have to cut it with a prog that does frame-cutting. TMPEGEnc cuts before I-Frames i think.
