  1. I plan to back up my collection soon

1.)You guys know how sometimes movies are just 1 700mb file
and sometimes they are 2 700mb files, although the quality
and the length of the film are the same? How can I convert
the two 700mb files into just one 700mb file..or can't it?

2.)Is there any software that will allow me to make DVD cover slips? I plan to put the movies in DVD cases and make cool covers for them.

    Thanks

  2. 1.) The reason some rips are 2CDs is because of the length. According the TDX, movies over 111mins should be 2CDs, this is so that the bitrate can be maximized to improve the quality of the video. You can combine them into 1 700MB file but it WILL (guaranteed) look like ass because a) you're re-encoding an already highly compressed source (DivX) b) you're using a lower bitrate in order to fit it in the 700MB limit.

2.) No clue, maybe newer versions of Nero?

in closing, if you want to, you cna convert 2 DivX AVIs into 1, but it will look like shit and is best not done.

  3. Though Condone's tales of shit is very informative, he seemed to forget the important info:

You can merge and re-encode DivX files with Virtual Dub. Freeware to be found at www.divx-digest.com

And though I in general aggree, that two CD divx movies should best be left alone, there are cases, where you can re-encode without loosing (that much) quality; some rippers (for some damn reason) use very high constant bit rate, and in these cases, it can be done with nice results, but again, in general I wouldn't recommend. BUT ultimately, you decide what quality, you want, so shit tales aside - use Virtual Dub for your pleasure!

  4. well he asked about making 2 DivX each at 700MB each, into one DivX at 700MB total. that involves re-encoding. i answered his question, but true, i went off on a tangent about that and forgot to include the info on how to simply join the two together, but joinging does just that, join them together, into a file that is the size of both combined (of course that is common sense to most...hopefully )
