well, i do a lot with midi, but i was using Renoise which doesn't work as much with midi as other DAWs. And yeah, I do most everything from scratch. if i ever use presets on anything, i destroy them so much with effects that you'd never know. lol

Hahaha dude, I was just having some fun...
It's actually a lot harder to make it look authentic . You need keyed out stock footage or something real., because computer generated assets like that monser boogie will never look real
Also you can motion track in AE, but it's only "2d" or "planar" for mocha, you only have x, y coordinates and rotation, scale. It's not mean for 3d compositing. You need a 3d solving camera tracker to composite something realistic onto your finger, and make it look "stuck on" for real (e.g. nuke, boujou, pf track) , plus lights, wrapping, other effects to make it look like a real composite. e.g. Light hits the object at different angles and you need to show that on the composited object. Things like shadows, deformation effects need to be added as it "interacts" with other things in the footage. That's the sort of thing they use for Hollywood big budget movies. That is a lot of work, not something I would want to do for fun
In a real situation, they would shoot that scene with props , makeup and real stuff pasted on the finger and up the nose - hey that's what actors are paid for
But I'm actually more interested in learning about audio , and how you'd go about making soundtracks . Like what's the general process you used Icarus, for this or other projects? e.g what kinds of software are used etc...Last edited by poisondeathray; 9th Jun 2011 at 13:58.

i use ALL kinds of different things. for this i used a DAW called Reaper which is a GREAT little multitrack tool along the lines of Sonar, Acid, etc but way cheaper and easier to use in my opinion. The demo version is actually the same as the full version with no disabled features so you can fully test drive it and see what it can do before purchase (which is some like $50 for a license? maybe a tad more for a commercial license?). and for the percussion i used a ******* POWERHOUSE called Stormdrum. That one if I recall is a tad pricey, as is the Miroslav Philharmonik VST I used for the strings. The piano however, is a little freeware VST called MDA Piano which I use CONSTANTLY in nearly all of my projects. Lets put it this way, Miroslav has a high quality grand piano and many different options for it (all the instruments in MP are actually sample based, recorded from the actual orchestra), and I still chose to use MDA. The DAW I use the most though is called Renoise. It's a tracker, it's a bit intimidating to look at for the first time (i nearly wet myself when i saw it, as i was unfamiliar with trackers), but now I feel like I've been wasting my life before I found it. lol. I have also been getting a bit more into Reason lately (don't ask me why all of these different softwares use names that begin with RE ahen they're all made by different companies. must be the government). Aside from that, the actual WRITING of the score or soundtrack, is a matter of finding that right emotional plane and then the slightly harder process of using the right notes, sounds, effects to meet that emotion with the music. Wow, listen to me pretending to be smart.
feel free to PM or email me (or just respond here) if you have any other questions, i'd be glad to help.

here's a quick little loop. Didn't know how you wanted to approach it, but i went a little funky with this one (being 'Da Bomb' and all. lol). if you'd prefer it be more sound effect-y instead of music-y, i'll come up with other options.
instead of making ANOTHER reply, i'll edit this one, what do you guys use to edit your videos? i'm trying to decide on a good program. i'd eventually like to get into the video angle more myself (i've been dying to release a dvd album for my 'harsh soundscapes' project with all kinds of wierd videoness to accompany the audio, but it'll be who knows how long before i can do that lol). -
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but can you recreate the mood of that song? Was that Daz Band? Not exactly the notes, but the feel. I'm into scratching, beatbox, Nu Disco, house, Ibiza, world, ragga, etc. It's all good.
Hey, if you people go PM, that kind of defeats the purpose of a forum, yeah? I'll be lonely.Last edited by budwzr; 9th Jun 2011 at 15:19.

what song? i'm not sure i understand... the song in the video i attached? i wrote that. just now.

-
lmao. no, i was just referring to your production name. i can take a listen and see what i can do if you want though.
-
Oops, I don't have it. It's the Gap Band, it's on Amazon, you can hear the sample, but it's not the right part. It's the first one on this list: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords...p+band&x=0&y=0

found it on youtube and already working on it. what part do you mean? verse? chorus? weird flutey part at the end?
-
There's a part that's not on the sample, that has a bomb-falling descending whistle sound, mixed with some funk bass, that's the best I can describe it.
Anyway, do what you want, forget that, do what you think, that idea might suck anyway.
EDIT: Oh, on YT! I should of thought of that. It's the break with the bomb in it. -
I'm working on some dialog for FatMan in the car: http://youtu.be/hVn7jFb9Eck?hd=1

Can you do spiritual? Say I want to do a 2 min 30 sec slide show/video of a church for their website or youtube. Can you do a 2:30 score targeted to a Bible/Protestant church?
-
Yeah I'm sure I could. Do you possible have an example or a bit more description on what sort of a sound you're looking for?
-
No example yet. I'm just looking for all my options when I start shooting churches and creating small videos, around 2 minutes and 30 seconds. I need background music. All the churches around me are Protestant Bible churches. I'm looking for simple uplifting music. Not religious hymns. Maybe the best way to describe the kind of music I'm looking for is - uplifting sunshine Sunday morning music. -
Alright, I'll come up with a demo for you. I just have to finish up a few paying projects over this weekend, and I'll work something up for you during the week.
and tobudwzr, I'm still working on something for you. You didn't like the first loop I used at all? Not a problem, just curious. I think I may be able to get something close to what we were talking about with the 'i dropped a bomb on you' feel. I'll keep you updated. -
Yeah, I like the one you made. I downloaded the YT video of the song I was thinking, and actually it sux. So forget that, I'll keep what you sent, thanks?
I tried to slip in that bulging nose that PDR made, and it's not working out because it's only in one scene. Anyways, I'm going to redo the whole video.
Thanks, buddy! -
cool. looking forward to the final product. here's a hi res version of the audio.
-
i have several new pieces of work available to hear, much higher quality than the first set. Though some of you have heard 1 or 2 of them.

Actually, to be honest i may need to go ahead and write you something else for the splash screen look (the one titled 'Deliver the Funk' because that's now being pitched to MTV for an upcoming show. I mean... it's a non exclusive deal so i don't think it's a big deal. i think worst case scenario i could just draw up a very informal contract granting you the right to use it as long as it's not for profit. or again, i could write you another one, you didn't seem to be super thrilled with that one at first anyway. we could revisit the 'dropped a bomb' idea. lol
-
Whatever, I'm easy. I haven't been active on that video because I got burnt out on it. It's not online anymore. I'll put it back online later.
I didn't get super-thrilled, because I'm not happy with the way the intro and "the attack" part kind of clash together right away at the beginning.
I'm thinking the intro doesn't need anything, or maybe just one "stab". -
Yeah, maybe so. Also, PDR came in and crashed the party with that "enhancement" and things went downhill right away. Our creativity was trounced like someone throwing a bucket of water on a campfire.
Those AE people have the mindset that every project needs a comet or explosion.Hahaha. So when a serious project comes along, like Boogerman, they flail haplessly outside their field of expertise. Hahaha, whew, LMFAO.

HAHA. Wait till you buy Boris FX. It has a "shatter" plugin that extrudes pieces. You'll be itching to blow everything up too
Icarus - Thanks for the info earlier. Actually I have an old version of reaper, but I really suck at putting scores togther. Both technical and creative deficiencies -
-
Hey Bart, how about this one?: http://youtu.be/4GhIzRor05s
I bought an Energizer 7 LED headlamp ($18), and it has a red light, so natch, I'm doing horror now too. -
I think this one might be the ticket, if not, "Phartman" is out there too. BoogerMan is on hold.
I think I might try to make a trailer on this "Head Hunter", there's no limit to where you can find a grizzly head.
If I go viral, and there's a movie deal, I'm bringing you with me!
