    Hi everyone!

I just used StaxRIP 1.1.7.0 to convert DVD to mkv. My intentions were to include two audio tracks and two subtitle tracks. I was successful making the mkv file with dual audio, and the final product tells me that there are two selectable subtitles as well, but no subtitles appear in playback (using VLC).

Now, Im aware that the subtitle tracks (.idx format) are actually pictures that are supposed to be overlayed on the video, but will they actually work after embedding them into an mkv file? Most soft subs I've seen converted the picture files into real text with timings using OCR software before inclusion into the mkv.

I followed a guide on these forums (dvd to mkv) with only one difference: the guide used mp4 as the container whereas I selected mkv as the container. Will the .idx subtitles work then if I use MP4 instead of MKV?

Hope you folks can advise me accordingly, and thanks for any help you can extend!

Yes, idx/sub works in a mkv. Can you select the subtitle in vlc but they don't appear?

Oh nuts... It worked afterall. My version of VLC was over a year old, and for some funny reason it wouldn't show subtitles properly. Previous version was 1.0.3, and I update to version 1.1.9 to get things working.

    Problem solved
