  1. Folks may do well to exclude Real Media Player option if installing the otherwise handy freeware SUPER v 2011 Build 48" from the publisher's site (eRightSoft.com). The RM extra installs a trojan type program in the autostart section of Windows' registry without your permission, causing the app to start each time Windows is booted. The registry key is located as follows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

    Value Name is TkBellExe

    Value Data: "C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\Update\realsched.exe" -osboot

AFAIK realsched, when installed with Real Player, is harmlesss. I have it running in my system and no issues whatsoever.

On the other hand, if you have more than one instance of realsched running - check your Task Manager - then you are quite likely to have a real Trojan installed and running.

On this system, realsched uses 0 cpu and 244k of memory.

  3. long ago i was a big-fan of super....but for the same reason as yours i dropped it out-of my choices.
MediaCoder is almost same as SUPER.

Try XMedia Recode (which is one the best and FREE too!) instead which gives you more flexibility.

Super may not be as good as it once was but realsched, in this scenario, is NOT a trojan.

You probably have several such programs running in your system. Annoying ? maybe. Harmless ? Yes.

  5. According to my hacker defense suite, ProtectX, the entry is identified as a "trojan." But even if it does not harm my system, the idea is offensive; besides, for SUPER to add the thing suggests it must do something... spyware?

For video conversion I use ConvertX, which is a truly a wonderfully super app; unfortunately it does not offer control over bitrate, etc. So Im thankful for the referral to XMediaCode.

Freemake video converter is another very easy to use all-in-one converter. Does not support as many format as super though.

  7. XMedia Recode has some nice features. Too bad it does not create IFO files when converting to DVD. I know video gurus tout apps like IFOEdit as capable of creating IFOs, but none of those wizards can communicate how it's done: I followed the steps of several IFOEdit "guides," but the IFOs never worked. If someone has personally created an IFO that does run a VOB, I'm hoping you'll share this apparently closely guarded secret.
