  1. How can I add a small clip or an image that will stay for 5-10 sec, after which the video will start...
it's like a clip before the actual movie ... i can't explain any better
there is a plugin for virtualdub for this stuff?

It's called joining or File->Append in virtualdub or avidemux . But the clip must match the source properties exactly or you have to reconvert everything.

Why'd you ask how to add a video to the beginning of another video if you don't even have the video you're going to add?

As Baldrick said, the new clip has to exactly match the properties of the original clip. This is exponentially harder than just making a clip. Which you don't know how to do. Better you forget the whole idea.

Might there not be other ways to approach this, where you don't need to match properties for anything ? Using something like CX2D, or AVStoDVD, or DVD Flick ? I've long had it in mind to be able to structure a disk I made like this:

Short intro clip plays right away, then

It goes right into the standard disc menu for whatever else is on the DVD.

I could be mistaken, but that does not sound too far removed from what the OP was describing. And it seems like I am only missing a couple of not-very-major steps for being able to do this -- perhaps with either of those first two programs, with which I am already familiar. The learning curve on using them is not terribly steep for a new user, either.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

A clip has to be loaded first

In order for this to work successfully, both clips need to have the same characteristics (same video codec, settings, audio settings, sample rate, frame rate, dimensions, etc...., etc....)

  10. hmm ...
    i see..
it seems my second clip has a different framerate
    edit:
    hmmm
now they are the same but i get the same error

  11. As said before, all characteristics have to be exactly the same. You're only showing 5 decimal places in that screenshot

The NTSC film framerate is actually 24000/1001 or 23.976023976024000....

Change one to match the other

video=>frame rate try something like 23.97602 should be good enough, then direct stream copy for audio & video & save them out, then re-import and append

  12. i can't do two encodes..
the first video i have has 23.976 but it says it is 23.97599
this video i encode with sub + other effects and it takes me like 35min
i can't do it all over again just to put another clip in front of it and as u can saw in the picture.. the fps are exactly the same.

  13. But it's not exactly the same, that's why you can't join them

It's not 2 encodes. Direct stream copy is copying, not encoding (takes seconds or minute). It' s just changing the fps header. The timing won't be off - difference between 23.976 and 23.97602 won't be perceptible for 35 minute episodes. Or change them both to 23.976 exactly if you want. The point is they have to match EXACTLY. Everything, not just FPS.

Or try avidemux, it's better with slightly off frame rates

  14. and how do i do it with avidemux ?
don't know how to work with it

  15. 1) Load your first clip
    2) File=>append , select your 2nd clip
    3) Set the video=> copy , audio=> copy, format=>avi on the side drop down menus
    4) CTRL+S to bring up save dialog, enter name with extension e.g. "joinedvideo.avi" , press save

  16. i did this..
and it puts the 2nd clip at the end of the 1st
i need it at the very beggining

  17. swap the order then

I just tried it . Works for me

Maybe you're using a bad version ? Try another build

  18. it is the latest version ..
    how to swap the order?
i don't know anything about this program
    Quote Quote
  19. load the 2nd video 1st then append the 1st, or load the the 1st video 1st, then append the 2nd

what ever you did, do the opposite order . That's how you swap the order

I suspect you just made a mistake and picked the wrong video. When I say 1st clip, that's the intro portion. The "2nd clip" refers to the main video

    edit:
    no i don't have any audio ..
when it was at the back i had audio
