  1. The RGB passthrough on that device should not be significantly degraded.

  2. Yeah but i mean when itīs sharing the signal, normally that will degrade the quality, does it matter on active solutions like that?

    Thanks

  3. The RGB passthrough should be unaffected by the s-video conversion/output.

  4. Ah nice
Was that i wanted to know, as passive splitting of any kind will degrade it by "half" in the signal quality i think

The signal strength may be decreased by half. The quality may be fine since many devices can handle lower signal strengths.

  6. Oh, but if the signal (The information??) is degraded by half, doesnīt it ruin it pretty much?
At least i know that the Brightness or Contrast is affected, it becomes Darker.

Signal strength doesn't directly equate to signal quality. The sync pulses are decreased along with the luma and chroma channels. The automatic gain of many devices will compensate for decreased signal strength using the sync pulse as a reference. Unless the strength is very very low.

  8. So, if the signal is reduced, there will be decreased sync (with low it will not be recognized and such i guess) with the luma and chroma, and the device can increase this automatically if it has that support?

Cause i shared the signal when i had an s-video between the Capture card and TV, and i looked at the TV when i connected and disconnected it from the capture card, it went from bright to dark so to say. Does this mean that my TV doesnīt have a good automatic gain?

    Thanks

    Yes.

    That is correct.

  10. Nice
Sadly i didnīt look, or at least donīt remember looking and comparing the Capturing picture, but will find out sooner or later.
But thanks, some really good information there

  11. Okay i tried a thing with my current card for fun, i tried 60hz through NTSC on my Xbox. And that solved the Red Lines that appeares on Pal.
I donīt know if this is it being bad on handling Pal or if it is something else, maybe resolution?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
What's the name of the store were you bought it?
I have a friend in Sweden that could by it for me.
When did you buy it? Do you think they still sell it?

  15. Okay, i have now finally gotten an s-video cable for my Xbox, and the quality is as expected except for, a noise thing, i donīt really know what it is.
So posting a picture, look at the background, there is like a net or something, thanks

  16. Oh missed your post, sorry;O!
Ehm, i bought it of Tradera (Ebay in Sweden), it was pure luck if you ask me, but itīs not the best capture card, but it does the thing anyways

Why isn't it "the best"? It can capture lossless isn't that the best a card can do (I know it is but..).
And to your question about that net thing..
I thought i already saw that once..than I googled it and found exactly the same thred I once overflue.
    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/331681-s-video-artifacts
I'm also try ing to capture some things but in lossless I also bought a svideo kabel (high end) thats why I once found this thread.

  18. Well problem is it is a game console;S
however, it almost dissapears when converting to yv12 and using QTGMC

Well, if you mean the best, as inte the ability to capture, then Yes of course
But it got problems with orange lines, that however may be a PAL problem, as i donīt see it on NTSC signals.
But the card itself is very good if you ask me, bought it for 150kr = about 23 dollars or something, so cheap and good
So if you want to capture video, s-video or composite, and use Line in on the PC (as this one only supports mono, and i canīt even connect the cable as i donīt find the connector on my MB) then itīs perfect

  19. It still looksl ike dot crawl artifacts -- but they're blurry? Can you upload a losslessly compressed YUY2 video sample?

Try DeCrawl() in AviSynth. Or Dot Crawl Comb filter in VirtualDub.

  21. Yes, Dot Crawl Comb Filter in VirtualDub works. DeCrawl() doesn't completely remove it. But CheckMate() does a good job. CheckMate() at default settings:

  22. But i donīt get what you mean with Dot Crawl, as the dots that was hanging around every color is gone, the only thing now is the X of red and green;S

    Saw that it removed that;O
But is that even dot crawl?
isnīt it some sort of, bad handling of luminance and chroma?
Last edited by zerowalker; 12th Jan 2012 at 21:14.

  23. Dot crawl is caused by leakage of the chroma signals into the luma channel, and vice versa. It usually shows up at edges but can show up anywhere there is color, depending on how well it's filtered out.

  24. So what you see here, is it the card or the cable?

Edit: I tried sharing the s-video cable, and i didnīt see any bad side effects, it just "flashed" then it showed on two screens, i tried to look when connecting, but couldnīt really see any difference from before the "flash".
So i wonder, does this signal amplify work on component as well?
As i have seen people writing (It becomes as dark as if you had the brightness off), so donīt really know what to think there.

    Thanks

I think it's the console's fault. The graphics chip's output is composite and they use a cheap composite to s-video splitter to produce s-video output.

  26. I see, but is it like that on VCR too?
As i wouldnīt want that on an VCR with S-video.

  27. You'll have to try it and find out.

  28. Okay, well letīs hope i get a real one when i do find one, but can always ask here if i find a model i want to buy
But, did you know about the component thing i asked above?
    When sharing signal with component?

    Thanks

  29. I've never tried a passive splitter for component signals. I imagine it's the same as composite and s-video: the signal is reduced. The devices can use the horizontal sync pulse to compensate (automatic gain control). If they don't the picture will get darker.

I've tried passive splitters, and so have many other users. They totally suck.

For many years I've been using two distribution amps from CE Labs that perform beautifully. It's the only way to go. You'll find them in industrial use in many showrooms and pro shops. Moderately priced to begin with, they're sold at Parts Express, Amazon, many other sites at reduced prices. Well worth it.

CE Labs composite/svideo distribution amps. AV400SV handles svideo and composite (NOTE: This is not a converter. If you want svideo output, you need svideo in. If you want composite out, you need composite in. Oddly, electronic composite-to-svideo converters are priced outta sight). comp/svid products page:
    http://www.celabs.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=79

They make component amps as well. The AV400COMP does a flawless job. Component products page:
    http://www.celabs.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=59

I also tried models from otehr makers. CE Labs outperforms all except stuff costing $$$$$$ more. Stay away from cheap passive (non-electronic) a/v splitters. They're horrible.
