  1. When I play a file with VLC (1.1.9) it stays briefly on the final frame and then empties the window. After that I cannot move the slider.

    How do I:
    1. Get it instead to stay on the final frame?
    2. View any frame using the slider?

Open 'Advanced Controls' from the 'View' menu and a frame-by-frame button appears (down-arrow inside a film frame). Just click that from pause to play each frame.

Or use VirtualDub, can use the slider, or frame advance with the arrow keys, or use control-G to go to any frame.

You can also use "custom interface" under "view" to add the "frame by frame" button to the lower line. I also moved "snapshot" there. Also keyboard Shift+> or Shift+< moves about 3 second steps. These work with MPeg as well.

The "frame by frame" button works great for identifying telecine or frame repeat patterns.
