Hi,
until now I used EAC with lame.exe to rip my CD collection accurate. But I'm testing dBpoweramp and now I don't know what ripper is better. dBpoweramp is the ripper from Illustrate - also Accuraterip is from Illustrate.
What do you think?
EAC is a bit buggy and dBpoweramp costs some money. What ripper should I use?
Thanks for posting your opinion![]()

Years ago I used dbPowerAmp, until perhaps 2005, then EAC. Just last year I tried the version of dbPowerAmp that was newest at that time.
Nothing wrong with dbPowerAmp, but then again, there's nothing wrong with EAC that I know of. And I haven't found it to be at all "buggy". Use whichever one you like. JMO.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
If I remember correctly EAC had the potential to cause a Blue Screen Of Death on XP and Win 2000 if you didn't put winaspi32.dll in the same directory as the EAC binary. That issue seems to have been fixed for Win 7 and possibly Vista (I have no way to test that though). Otherwise I am unaware of any "bugs" in EAC.

I started using dBpoweramp a long time ago. As far as the overall program and quality, dBpoweramp is the way to go. It's the best out there if you want my opinion. EAC is just now starting to update the program, after what, 5 years lol. Plus it can be confusing for beginners. dBpoweramp is easy to use

I use EAC from some time now and I like it very much. About the updates, it's not true that it wasn't updated for five years; it has been updated at least once a year and a lot of work has been done on the last two or three updates.
It's true it can be a little hard to less experienced users (mainly to configure), but once you get over that, it's quite friendly to use. -
Yep, EAC
I have been using it since the XP days and i never had a problem with it.
One of the first thing i install on any machine i own and when i do a fresh install of Windows.
But i keep almost all of my audio on my PC's in either wav or flac.
If i need something con(crapped)verted to MP3 for my pocket player for when mowing the lawn i just throw whatever through Lame. -
To the EAC-Users: Are my settings OK? I think that I stay with EAC.
Everything works fine.
The "bugs" I mentioned are:
- the "ACCESS VIOLATION"-notification which appears when I click on play and then on stop (appears only sometimes and when it appears I have to close and restart EAC, then everything should work fine, if not, I close and restart EAC again)
- the text of the Accuraterip-window is broad, so the text is not fully readable (can be compared with dbpoweramps accuraterip-window, which is not broad and OK) (can anybody tell the author of EAC this? - thanks)
Thanks -
nobody an idea, if this is 100% correct for highest quality *.mp3-files?
Thanks -
Haven't updated my EAC in years, don't know if things have changed much. This is what I use in additional command line options:
%l--alt-preset 160%l%h -m s -v --vbr-new -V 0 -b 32 -F%h %s %d
The stuff between the %l's applies to the low quality setting, the %h's the high quality. With your LAME version the commands are a little different. In high quality, I use VBR to save a little space. The -V0 setting is the best quality with a target of 245 kbps; that doesn't mean a maximum of 245, many frames will still hit 320. The -b 32 -F sets a minimum bitrate of 32 kbps, some players need that. Your current setting of -q0 is used for CBR encoding. The %s %d are used with EAC to add the ID3 tag. Even if you don't want to set low/high commands, you should add -m s to have LAME encode in stereo instead of joint stereo.
Check out the Hydrogenaudio EAC configuration wiki. Also, here's the complete LAME command list.
