Hey everyone
I found an old portable DVD player, and after finding the screen works pretty well I want to use it as a larger screen for my nikon d3000, just to have when taking studio shots. the dvd player takes a video line in, using a mini phono plug. My camera uses the same mini-phono jack for video out. I'm wondering what cable I use to connect two mini-phono jacks that are inputting and outputting video. I have tried just a mono mini-phono wire, male on both ends, but no signal appears to be going through. Any ideas?
Thanks

Use a "stereo" mini phono plug (with or without a "stereo-to-mono" adapter, or splitter). Your camera should have come with such a plug. Stereo mini phone plugs a quite common in use with PC speaker connections. Check your manuals, too.

I just checked....the Nikon(my D90) video cable appears to be identical to the standard stereo mini audio connection. I doubt the camera will send a video signal out through that connection while taking a shot(or even composing a shot via the LCD screen) however. It will probably only send a signal while viewing photos already in the camera or while in slideshow(also viewing) mode.

	Thanks everyone.
I have tried the mono and stereo mini-to-mini wires while taking and view pictures and menus and nothing seems to be coming up.

And El, I would, but the video input on the dvd player is specifically for video, and I don't think I wanna try and stuff audio in there too.

I guess I'll just keep trying stuuf, and maybe reading my manual would help too, scott

This should help. Here are pictures of the video out on my camera and the video in on the dvd player.

Anyone recognize the line in's? Thank you!

The D3000 doesn't even have "Live View" like many Nikon cameras so what I think you are trying to do is impossible. Like I said before...you CANNOT hook up the camera to a larger screen to compose the shot. The only time you will see the picture is after it is recorded to your memory card. Even with my D90 with Live View I cannot hook it up to my television and use the television as a replacement for the viewfinder or the rear LCD screen.

This is what I tried to say:

Perhaps the manufacturer(s) of your problematic device(s) used 4-pole jack(s) for the video input/output, and I don't know whether you had already checked this possibility.
