Ok now I've just about had it, I'm so close to accomplishing what I want to do but I'm still having problems. Ok what EXACTLY are the differences between the winoncd extended editor and videopak 4, does vp4 give you a little more control? does it support mixed vcd's such as video + music (mpa) + Slide show + menus ? If so that is what I'm looking for, just a little bit more than the extended editor in winoncd. If anyone knows where I can get some form of this program whether it be demo or whatever I would really appreciate it, just send me an email rather than clogging up the forum. If your just answering the question though post it here cause it might help someone else.
Thank you.

Hi,
If you really wanna use all function of a VCD's, go with videopak. It can do about everything which is possible with a VCD. WinOnCD can't.
Other fine programs to use would be I-Author (Which can also make SVCD's) and Philips VCD toolkit.

As far as vcds go the difference between the two programs is that vp4 supports chaptering and winoncd does not. So right there vp4 has a huge advantage. Other than that winoncd is just cleaned up a bunch with a nicer and easier to use setup.
winoncd does have its own slideshow function which is very good and easy to use and off the top of my head I dont remember vp4 having that, although you could probably do one by hand just using the vcd functions.
So basically if you dont need chaptering then go with winoncd, and if you can live without a slideshow function then go with vp4.
I-Author is very good also like Psycho said but just be warned that only the official version has vcd support, so if you don't buy it then it wont work for vcds.
I dont think that any demo's or free versions of any of these programs exist so if you want any version at all you will either have to buy it or find it somewhere else. -
yea VP4 is like Great with advanced menus and dont look cheap like Nero's because you can create your Own background and then jus use "hotspots" for buttons
verry cool
it jus that VP4 will have trouble with most burners out there. cause it says it's not compatabible with it. so i suggest if you do use it jus export the RAW files and then use VP4toCUE program to convert it to CUE BIN then burn with sumthin else but you will still have the cool menus that vp4 makes. -
VideoPack 4 uses the same drivers as WinOnCD. Thus, anything WinOnCD supports, so does VideoPack4.
If you having problems, you can simply use WinOnCD to load the RAW image and burn it through WinOnCD.
BTW, hotspots are supported on essentially NO hardware player (bar CD-i players) and very few software players.

ahh yes but all hot spots are jus invisble number commands anyways so you would jus press one rite? its not like im saying you would use a mouse or sumting
and you would hafto admit it is pretty good at making dynamic menus for ppl who are just getting into vcd

A selectable hotspot is in addition to a numerical choice. I'm not sure by what you mean "invisible" as you don't have to have a menu that displays "1", "2", "3", etc., for you to be able to select them.

There is another difference between VideoPack 4 and WinOnCD. With VP4 you can not program PREVIOUS and RETURN buttons for your remote control, WinOnCD can. But WinOnCD can not do chapters (entry points), VP4 can. But I found the trick how to use the best from both programs to author one project.
I start with VideoPack and design the whole layout of my XVCD project (Intro, Menus, Chapters, etc). I save that *.CPJ file and close it. Then I open this project file in WinOnCD and program PREV, RETURN, and NEXT buttons for my remote control. I save pfoject and close it. Then comes the trick. I open that *.CPJ file in Notepad (this file is just a plain text file) and delete two lines of the code. I save it and close. Then I open *.CPJ file in VP4 again and finish the project and burn it. This way I have full featured XVCD. There is also another trick, but I already wrote too much. If anybody interested in these tricks, let me know. I will be watching this thread. -
i was wondering
what line of text did you delete in the cpj file?
and what do you mean with the back and foward buttons? i think they work for my vcd in videopack i had three menus one main one and two sub menus and within each menu had two video clips within them..

you can use previous and back buttons in vp4, you have to turn off auto menu routing first. In terms of vcds vp4 can do everything winoncd can do.
-
oh you mean that "arrow" thing between the menus and clips? in vp4?
oh and adam somebody's talking about you in my forum topic
"tell me who you are"

Hey timmy_boi.
Here is the procedure with all three tricks of how to get the best of both programs to get the full featured (X)VCD:
You start your project in VP4, design everything, save it, close it. Then open it in WinOnCD.
1) FIRST TRICK:
MPG video track will be missing from every PLAY ITEM. You must reinsert the same MPG clip. But do it only once just for one PLAY ITEM inside PLAY LIST. Program the way you want PREV, RETURN, and NEXT buttons for every PLAY LIST and MENUS (you won't be able to program PREV, RETURN and NEXT buttons for PLAY ITEMS inside the PLAY LIST). Then save project and close it.
2) SECOND TRICK:
Opent your *.CPJ file with Notepad. Delete these two lines at the end of the file:
PATHTABLE
/PATHTABLE
Save file and close it.
3) THIRD TRICK:
Open your *.CPJ file in VP4. MPG video clip will be missing again. Here you must reinsert it into the project and reassign all PLAY ITEMS to appropriate chapters(entry points) like you did originally. Save project and burn it.
Why I found this and do it? Because in VP4 CONTAINER node, MENU node and PLAY LIST node don't have those three notches for PREV, NEXT, and RETURN buttons like in WinOnCD. But VP4 can do chapters (entry points). That's why I did a little digging and found these tricks. And I have full featured XVCD.

WAIT, you mean you actualy created VCDs using I-Author??? I get a 10002 error when I try to compile (that the video is not a track...) -
Alex did you purchase your version of I-Author? If not then it wont work for vcds. Read my first post in this topic.
-
just got one question of any of you. what is chaptering, and how do you accomplish it? do you have to divide the movie first, or can you do it quickly and easily in VP4 or winoncd?

Hey thanks for all the posts guys I appreciate it and now the hunt begins for videopak 4, is it easy to find in most computer stores if I got the legal route or is it like winoncd where unless your in europe you have to really fight to get ahold of a copy?
-
You will definitely not find vid pack 4 in any store. I believe the product is discontinued but supposedly video pack 5.0 is coming out soon. That might be your only legal way of getting the program.
If you cant wait for version 5 then 4.0 is hosted on tons of warez sites. Just do a search. -
Wow a moderater used the "W" word, just kidding. Thanks for the info, someone was nice enough to point me in the right direction so I will be testing out ver 4 soon.
