  1. Hi all,
I recently got an android tablet and it seems to be very picky about the type of x264 files that will play smoothly. I found a sample file that runs perfectly so I used MediaInfo to identify it's codec and settings. I'm now wanting to convert several videos of mine to match the encoding settings used for the first video but I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone able to help me out? The 2 things in bold are the ones I'm having the hardest time finding the settings for in the AVC x264 encoder settings. Below is the info from MediaInfo:

    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L3.1
    Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame
    Format settings, GOP : M=1, N=60

    Codec ID : avc1
Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding
    Duration : 2mn 20s
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 1 986 Kbps
    Maximum bit rate : 7 286 Kbps
    Width : 1 280 pixels
    Height : 720 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate mode : Variable
    Frame rate : 23.976 fps
Minimum frame rate : 17.241 fps
Maximum frame rate : 24.390 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.090
    Stream size : 33.3 MiB (94%)

  3. Wow that was fast...however I'm using this GUI (see below). I checked all the tabs and couldn't find anything about keyint's. Do you know where it'd be?

  4. GOP size minimum 1 , maximum 60

But there are dozens of other parameters that might be causing incompatibilities...

You're missing the metadata in that mediainfo report that contains the encoding settings used

e.g it might look something like this

    Writing library : x264 core 89 r1462kMod 7fcffde
    Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=4 / deblock=1:-1:-1 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=10 / psy=1 / psy_rd=0.50:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=24 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=0 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=1 / sliced_threads=0 / slices=4 / nr=0 / decimate=0 / interlaced=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / wpredb=1 / wpredp=2 / keyint=24 / keyint_min=2 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=24 / rc=2pass / mbtree=1 / bitrate=25000 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / vbv_maxrate=40000 / vbv_bufsize=30000 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00 / pulldown=0 / nal_hrd=vbr

Did you search for "android compatibility settings" ?

  5. Hmm there isn't anything like that in the mediainfo report...

  6. Well I guess you're going to be doing a lot of experimenting then...

Unless you search for and find: "x264 android tablet settings" on google

Maybe handbrake has a preset ?

You can ask on Doom9 as well, the developers post there, and some of them might have android tablet or know of what settings to use
