    Hi,

I need help with some mp4's which follow a few-steps process and seem to get somewhat corrupted along the line, but only with QuickTime.

Let's say I start with an AVI source ; something with a very high bitrate and quality. Then I import it into Premiere to cut scenes and stuff. Then I export using uncompressed AVI settings, which yields an AVI with RGB/PCM codecs. Up to there, everything is normal.
But then I have to encode this last AVI to MP4 using FFmpeg, which gives a file with AVC/AAC codecs.
And when I play the file in WMP or VLC, all goes well. But when I play it in Quicktime, I get flashes of artefacts, or color corruption, at the start of the movie and/or at specific moments, for instance during transitions that were added when I worked the movie in Premiere.

Here I have a sample file ; you should see the artefacts at the very start, between 00:00:00 and 00:00:01.
(Note : if the link gets you to a "text" page, you may right-click and choose "Save Page As..." to download it)

I wonder if my encoding is flawed, or if it's a known quirk of QT's, or else...
Thanks to anyone who can help me figure that out !

    Regards.

You could try remux the mp4 with mp4muxer that is based on quicktime. Open mp4, make a new mp4 and see if it makes any differrence in quicktime player.

Nop... Unfortunately it doesn't change a thing. Still have those artefacts.

Yes, I play other MOVs and AVIs in QT and all works perfect. And indeed my sample goes well in VLC.
Though, I have an AVI of the same sample, and the video is okay, but it plays no sound (in QT only, of course).

A video that's been only through Premiere is fine, and another that's been only through FFmpeg is also fine.
So it's like there something in the combination of Premiere/FFmpeg that QT doesn't like.
