problem playing blu-ray iso mounted on virtual drive

I'm trying to create a compilation video disc on blu-ray using multiAVCHD. I took the output from there and burned into an ISO using imgburn. Used "build mode" with UDF 2.50 file format type. I have the BDMV and Certificate directories, and the BDMV has the exact structure listed below. All the mt2s files in the stream folder play fine using vlc player.



But when I try to play it with Total Media Theater I get the error "this disc cannot be played". I get a similar error about an incorrectly formatted disc in PowerDVD. When I go to the virtual drive in windows explorer I see everything fine, correct structure, videos play in vlc etc. Also, i'm pretty sure that file layout and the transcoding are ok becuase if I use TMT to load the media from a file, it plays it exactly as I would expect it to from the ISO.

I'm guessing this means that something about how I created iso or how I'm mounting it is the problem, but I'm not sure how to track this down... I'm using magic iso + magic disc to mount the image, and like I said it shows everything fine in explorer..

Any help here would be really appreciated

The problem is that tmt and powerdvd couldn't read virtual mounted blu-ray when i tried,maybe someone else here knows a way to play virtual mounted blu-rays?

I never had any problem playing ISOs of Blu-Rays or AVCHDs when mounted with either DaemonTools or VirtualCloneDrive. I use TME's Digital Theater (essentially the same player as TMT). Even PowerDVD7 would play them, though I uninstalled PowerDVD when I got TME.

I would try one of the above virtual drives with a Blu-Ray ripped to ISO image to verify. Then try your compilation, maybe there's a problem with it.

Thanks for the advice. Used deamonTools pro standard trial version, and got the same error in both PowerDVD and TMT. Since TMT plays the 'disc' when I just select the folder containing the exact same file structure showing on my mounted ISO, it's probably safe to assume it's the iso creation process and not the ouput from multiAVCHD right?

I've never created a blu-ray image until this project so I don't know a lot about it. I just followed instructions given to me here. Build mode, drag the bdmv/certificate folders in, same structure as shown, UDF format and burn.

Any steps I might be missing? Or are there any files that could be misnamed/missing that would cause it to still play from the HD but not play from a mounted ISO?

Looks very possible it might be related to this http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=15508 When I did a verify on the image I noticed it showing as DVD provile instead of BD-R. This doesn't show how to fix it, but hopefully I'm on the right track

I play mounted blu ray ISO's all the time in TMT3, using Slysoft's VirtualClone Drive. So it isn't a problem with TMT.

It does sound like the ISO isn't being made correctly. Is there an empty folder called Backup in the Certificate folder?

i have the folder but it's not empty. Certificate has a file "id.bdmv" and the same file is inside the backup folder

Yes, I have one blu ray I made with MultiAVCHD that has that also. But my ISO works just fine. Can't be a problem by itself.

Ok, I can confirm that the issue in the link I posted above was it. Apparently if the ISO is less than 8-9GB or something it gets interpreted as a DVD-R instead of BD-R. I'm not sure if it's getting /burned/ that way or just read that way, but I still don't know if there's a way to fix it through settings. I just tried burning a larger ISO using all the same steps I did before and it read fine in TMT.

Still gets the same error in PowerDVD, not sure what's up with that but I've read it's kind of picky about blu-ray stuff.

It's my understanding that each succeeding version of PowerDVD has been less and less functional.

I haven't verified it myself, but you should be able to get PowerDVD to play mounted ISOs of Blu-Rays by having AnyDVDHD or DVDFabPasskey running. Both have an option in settings for PowerDVD Virtual Drive "Workaround". Enable the setting and give it a try. (Again, I don't have PowerDVD installed any more).

The extra setting to enable playback of blu ray ISO's in AnyDVD was removed as "obsolete" back in March. Version 6.7.9.0
You won't find it in newer versions.

But fritzi93 is right in that it (AnyDVD) should help with PowerDVD.

I see, thanks. Well as long as TMT works that's good enough for me. The main purpose I had when I ran into this is that multiAVCHD has some kind of funky behavior as far as creating and previewing chapter thumbnails (that or I just suck at it because I'm a noob), so I wanted to be able to do a quick preview to avoid burning coasters or wasting time burning/erasing a BD-RE. I'm sure I will burn a few coasters eventually, but... all in due time
