Let me refine the question. Is it possible to create a 16:9 Huffyuv file at all, say using Virtualdub?

    Yes, you can too.

  5. HuffYUV doesn't support aspect ratio flags. Just tell the editor the display aspect ratio is 16:9 when you open the HuffYUV file.

Assuming this is an anamorphic 720x480/576 file, in Vegas, right click properties and make sure aspect ratio is DV wide (e.g.16:9).

If your file is square pixel ~1280x720, then make sure Vegas aspect properties show it as 1:1 square.
