  1. using fraps for some game recording, was very choppy until i set it to record to a different hd then my system drive and seems a lot smoother.

it is still not very smooth relative to gameplay, i play the game at several hundred fps without frames dropping but set fraps to record at 60fps, should i set the frames before playback to lower would this help the recording?

also fraps, it is a registered version, is not recording for more than a minute and a half, well it does, but creates new files constantly, they are over a gig thought this may have something to do with it, so a 10 minute game gives me like 7 or 8 avi's.

just wanting some insight on getting this recording optimally before i start trolling through all my demos to capture what i want. i may need to wait until i have a beast to be able to do this. hope i can get some insight, cheers

If HD have in FAT32, FRAPS create files every 2gb recorded video

If NTFS HD, 4gb limited file.

For FRAPS I use this config:

    Hmmm.....
First off, you do not have your PC specs filled in, nor do you say what they are in your post.....

    What game ?
And you play this game at several hundred FPS ?
I am not a fanatic but i don't think i have ever heard of or read of anyone playing any modern game at "several hundred" FPS.

Which i find hard to believe, unless you are playing "bejeweled" or some other low res, low resource game.
I have a pretty decent system and the best i can get on any modern game is 120fps (dead space 2) and that is only 1 game, the majority are 60+ FPS and they run damn smooth and fast even at high resolution!!

    Hi Krohm,

My friend has a computer equal to yours, only changing the DDR3 1066 and your VC is ATI 4850 512MB.

It uses 1680x1050 in desktop. In games uses 1280x720@60hz.

I see that you still use a CRT monitor (85Hz) Try changing it to 60hz when playing, to be more compatible with FRAPS

Games like SFIV he can run more than 60fps. And with FRAPS also get 60fps constant in the resolution cited.

Try 1280x720@60hz. You will get stable in FRAPS
    recordings.

    Make a RAID0 for FRAPS.

  10. its a sony crt g520, some say one of the best monitors there is, still, i can run 1024 768 at 154hz smooth, it does 100hz and 85 easy on any resolution. or are you saying it will just make fraps run smoother if i lower it..

Yes, It´s a very nice CRT no doubt, but for FRAPS use in 60hz for smooth record. All game run in 60fps (default) above this is pure benchmark.

Make a test with these resolutions: 1152x864x60 or 1280x960x60 or 1280x1024x60 v-synced ever and post here your results.

Record in Fullscreen and Windows. Make all testes man. It´s funny. Use SFIV in maxed settings for this.

Try 120Hz. Fraps will just discard every other frame, and should perform nearly identically as when you set your refresh rate to 60fps.

    Hi mufunyo,

There is no benefit to doing it.

If the perfect record games is more important is best to use 60hz
    , agree?

I can tell you from personal experience: running a CRT at more than 60Hz saves you a lot of headache, fatigue, and other nastiness. The difference between 60Hz and 120Hz is like night and day.

Of course, to play more hertz is better,I agree no doubt. But my question is about record because Fraps can v-synced in 60fps/60hz for smooth record.

  17. but 120hz 120fps would be smoother, uch fps to set in the game and what to set the hz of the monitor?

ive found that in game at 1280 1024 at 100hz is pretty much the smoothest it runs, its smoother on higher res, 1600 1200 at 100hz but it isnt quite as fast, its a different feel to the game, it seems the fastest/smoothest rate at which the game plays at is at those settings, but when recording any game with fraps at 60fps at those settings it doesnt rate all that well comparatively to the playback of the demo. so fewer frames, not sure what to set at might try a few, see which is better to record at,
