not likely. if you wanted a bluray player that could be made region free you should have done the research before buying one that can't.

There is a dvd hack posted for this player that worked perfectly for me on my LG BD690. However, since the last update, it no longer works at all. If anyone has a fix for this, please post.

You can rip a DVD to your computer then burn it back to a DVD-R or DVD+R DL or whatever. The process of ripping will remove the region code so the new DVD you burn will be region free.

Please note that NTSC will still be NTSC and that PAL will still be PAL but either way it will be region free.

Some Blu-Ray players in the USA will play a PAL DVD if it is region free.

Please note that the Blu-Ray player may ONLY output in PAL if that is the format of the DVD but some will convert PAL to NTSC.

This is unfortunately more common than you think. This is why I strongly discourage people from ever updating firmware on their DVD or BluRay players. Hollywood hates region free machines and they often pressure the manufacturers to release firmware updates that break region free mode. In your case the odds are that the only "fix" will be to downgrade to a previous revision of firmware where the hack still worked. Note that some machines may not let you downgrade the firmware.

Note that unless a firmware update has a fix that you really cannot live without in my opinion there's just too much risk to blindly allow firmware updates. Firmware updates for BluRay in particular are more about restricting consumer choice than in fixing real problems.
