I am using Subtitle Workshop v2.51 and have the K-lite Codec Pack (full) v7.10 loaded. I've been using Subtitle Workshop for many years and stick with it because I like it better than their v4 beta 4 (at the least the last time I tried it). Everything works fine, except one particular .avi; which plays fine using VLC, but the video plays the entire way through as basically a black screen with one large blinking green box on the right half when played using Subtitle Workshop. GSpot shows that this .avi was compressed using VirtualDubMod v1.5.10.2 (avid 23.976 frams/s). I tried saving it as a new container using VirtualDub but with the same results.

As I said, it seems to play fine from VLC, so it's not a critical issue. I would simply like to understand what is different about this particular .avi that is causing this in case I come across it again in the future.

Codec packs can cause this. Especially if you choose to install everything. I just use ffdshow and never any codec packs.

VLC has built in decoders and does not use any of your installed codecs.
