    Have you tried doing a fresh install of XP.
    I use a similar spec PC to yours primarily for downloading and have no problem with stuttering etc. except for playing YouTube 720P videos, so it might just need to be freshened up

    I was using XP for a while and started to not like it compared to 7 so I switched over. It's more manageable now that I uninstalled AVG.
