  1. Hello

I had the older version before and I did not have any problems. After I've installed the Firefox 4, after 1 day the tabs opened started to be unnamed although they were open.

    Here is what I mean.

In the first tab I have videohelp forum and in the second one google. Both should be name videohelp forum and google, but I only get "new tab".

Any idea if this issue can be solved?

    Thank you in advance

Mine came up in a strange configuration (tabs on top) but after some playing with the toolbar settings got everything back where it was.

uninstall it and reinstall firefox. it should work fine, i've have the 4 series since it was released and haven't had any problems. i use the colorfultabs add-in to spice it up a bit.

The new default arrangement has tabs at the top.

  7. edDV...FF version 4 seems to default with tabs on top. At least it did for me. I did not like that and moved them back were they were in version 3.

To change the location of the tabs in FF4 do: VIEW>>TOOLBARS>>TABS ON TOP (check or uncheck)

Yeah but aedipuss has his tabs in the top bar next to the orange Firefox rectangle. This saves one row.

  10. there is a nice plugin and info/video for firefox 4 that will give it the look and appearance of firefox 3, so that may help a bit (and can be found here)

    http://cnettv.cnet.com/make-firefox-4-look-like-firefox-3/9742-1_53-50102340.html

Also there is a plugin that controls and adds/restores more tab functions that FF4 removed. It works great for me, that can be found here:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-utilities/

Probably not compatible plugins, try in menu Help -> Restart with add-ons disabled...
and enable each plugin by step

Yeah, I like to keep my toolbar very small so I got rid of Tabs and everything else that I didn't need.

Too small to read unless you've got youthful eyesight, or to hit with the mouse unless you've got super steady nerves! Not for the over 50 crowd.

I rolled back to FF3.6.17 and here's how the top of my browser looks. Everything's on one toolbar, the Menu Bar.
No tabs unless more than one website is opened.

Amen, especially if you have a high resolution monitor. Old age is not for sissies.

The FF4 much more faster than FF3
if you want FF3 look and control like I also, just get FF3 color theme and Status-4-Evar
get Default FullZoom Level to automatic zoom on every site

My screen resolution is 2048x1152. If I lower my screen resolution to 1024x768 it looks like this...

...and I turned 54 yesterday. My eyes have been screwed since I turned 40. I use 250 power reading glasses for the PC and 125 for watching TV and driving at night. I run my monitor on my other PC at 1024x768 because it's only a 19" 4x3 monitor...and yeah, FF4 is much faster than FF3.5. I have "Open in a new window goes first" script installed to act like FF3.5. You can move tabs from top to bottom or get rid of them completely like I have.

My friend has his 4x3 monitor set to 640x480 because he refuses to wear his glasses and it drives me crazy when I use it. The icons are as big as baseballs. It's not quite as bad on his widescreen monitor where he has it at 1024x768 but it's still a little big for my taste. I was running this monito at 1440x900 but it was a little too big so I moved it to full resolutiom. Everything was a little too small at first but after using it for a while, everything started looking normal.

It seems like everyone is claiming that FF4 is faster than FF3.6, but where's the evidence? I don't notice any difference in speed when loading websites. In fact FF4 is far more kludgy (sluggish) in some respects, such as when making user settings via the Tools>Add-ons and Tools>Options windows.

  19. Hi, bro. My ff4.0 is fine. By the way, even someone said ff4.0 is very good in android phone. And I believed it....but it's sucks for my phone. Mine is HTC desire....I think there are always some information not true.

Run some speed tests using both versions. With FF3.6, I was constanstly getting speeds around 10Mbps. With FF4, I'm getting between 15 and 20 Mbps.

Since I've optimized IE6, it is as fast as FF4. I've gotten speeds as high as 23Mbps in IE6 and as high as 21Mbps in FF4. I never saw those speeds with FF3.6.

The opposite is true here, FF3.6.17 is a little faster than FF4.0.1_portable. But the difference probably isn't significant, within normal variability...

speed tests only check your isp internet connection speed, not the rendering speed of a browser. for that you'd need to have a different test page.

    So where is that located?
I've got a pretty good stopwatch, but doubt it is necessary...
Like I said, I don't notice any big difference in speed when surfing and going to websites with FF4 vs FF3.6. If there were, I'd probably notice it.

I'd like to see that test also.

When I was using FF3.6 and before I optimized IE6 (I tried IE7 and IE8 also), I would try to open my COX Webmail or my COX at Phoenix page and it would take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes (usually closer to two minutes) to open the page. With IE6 optimized and FF4, it takes about 5 seconds. At times, when I was browsing the internet, it felt like I was using dial-up. Not using high speed internet.

    EDIT: Stopwatch

There are a lot of variables involved, difficult to make an exact diagnosis. I don't think it's a proper basis to compare the speeds of FF3.6 and FF4 and say that one is faster than the other. For that I believe you need to have both installed on the same system and run parallel speed tests. You could do that with the portable version(s) from www.portableapps.com There are other ways too, but believe that's easiest. For example you could keep your FF4 as default browser and install FF3.6.17_portable. You can't run them at the same time without some command line tricks, but that's not needed just to compare speeds.

I was doing that with the portable version of FF4 and FF3.6 installed. Spmewhere, there is a thread where I talked about it here. I also had multiple versions of IE from version 5.0 to version 8 running at the same time.
