All I am trying to do is cut off the first few seconds of a video with annoying text & it won't let me because the frame type is p & not I & if I do it the way the program wants me to do it then that will not let me cut out the part I want to cut out. How can I get around this ? They really need to remove this stupid feature

Well I can not accomplish what I want to accomplish due to whatever the hell this is. Are there any other programs that would let me cut off the first few seconds of a video without re encoding ? Its an mp4 & I did try Quicktime Pro but that is not good because you still see a few seconds of what I want cut out

Don't blame Avidemux, place blame on how the video you are trying to edit was encoded.
When Avidemux is set to copy mode, you can only cut on I frames. This is the proper way it works for all programs.
Instead of copy mode, set the codec that you want under Video Output. Then set the start frame you want. Of course you will have to reencode the file since you don't have an I frame in the proper spot.
You don't say what file type you have (what kind of mp4). If its h264 you could purchase VideoReDo (latest beta) and do a smart render so only the few frames of video before the I frame is reencoded and the rest of the video is untouched. -
Start a thread bashing Quicktime Pro then....you paid $30 for it...AviDemux is free.
