  1. This is my first post here, but I have been looking around and it looks like a decent place to get some help. I have this problem with my easycap, however I have looked for a long time and NOBODY else has the same problem is me.
The problemis that when I go to capture video it says 'the USB controller does not have enough bandwidth available for the USB composite device'. I think this is because my laptop is old and doesn't have 2.0 USB ports, although I bought a USB that plugs into my 1.1 USB port and it has 4 other ports coming out of it that are all 2.0, however I still get the same problem.
    Please help.
    Thanks

AFAIK, if the usb port on the laptop is 1.1 then the adapter will effectively also be 1.1 even though it can support 2.0.

You can not make a 1.1 connection into a 2.0 connection whereas a 2.0 port will support 1.1 usb equipment.

  3. Ok, but it says that 'the USB host controller does not have enough bandwidth available for the USB composite device' and that the easycap is requesting 81% of the bandwidth... Has anyone got any ideas on how to reduce this amount, or anything else that may help me?

If the easycap requires usb 2.0 and you have usb 1.1 then there is nothing you can do. Usb 2.0 transfers more data ie Bandwidth than usb 1.1

  5. oh... it says it requires USB 2.0 but the adapter says that it is compatible with USB 1.1 although the same problem. Anyway thanks for your help

Read my original reply. You CAN NOT make a 1.1 port into a 2.0 port just by plugging in a 2.0 adapter. The adapter will still provide 1.1 speed/bandwidth.

Or to put it another way, the 2.0 interface is backward-compatable with 1.1. 1.1 is NOT forward-compatable with 2.0
