i've read that Sanyo is in the Matsushita familly like Quasar

Would my Sanyo 4 head be a better player for my Quasar (4 head) recorded tapes ?
(most are in the 6h mode)

if i remmember well this unit tracked well

if so i could send it for repairs and bring it back to life

My JVC HR-S5800U showed some tracking noise and audio static too

  4. Panasonic's purchase of Sanyo was fairly recent. Any Sanyo branded VHS VCR was likely NOT made by Panasonic.

  5. Yep, they bought Sanyo recently more for industrial reasons than consumer products. Neither has made VCRs in ages.

Quasars are typically very sturdy VCRs, and sell for nothing on Craigs List or eBay. You could buy three for what it would cost to service your Sanyo. I'd just get another Quasar, or a Panasonic from the same year since that would be an identical twin. Look on the back panel of your Quasar for the date it was made, and shop for a Panasonic made within the same time period. You might also look into a used Sharp VCR: these track very well with EP tapes made on other VCRs.

yhemaster1 does have a point, however: 6hr tapes are torture to play on machines that didn't record them, you may never get these to play perfectly. Don't spend a fortune pursuing the impossible: maybe pick up one Sharp and one Quasar/Panasonic for $40 total outlay and roll the dice.

well i thrashed my old quasar .. i live far from the big cities

guess i'll scan pawnshops and browse for deals on the net for early '90's vcr

my guess is that used equipemens may need servicing too

i captured one with 5800U and .. well couldn't get the tracking right
and with a little tempôral filtering helped a little too

i kinda know that old vhs will always look vhish on dvd
