  2. Strange this is happening on an HTTPS address. You even have the PADLOCK symbol, too.
Have you contacted the companies you are ordering from regarding this?

It seems like the Windows installation is really hosed now.

You could try booting from a USB stick or CD with Ubuntu (Linux), without installing Ubuntu on the laptop. You would of course need another computer to download Ubuntu, which can be obtained here http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download. If there are personal files on the laptop that need to be saved, this may allow you to copy them. Then you could try to repair the Windows installation using the Windows CD that came with the laptop. If that doesn't work, you will need to reformat the drive and re-install Windows. If you end up re-installing Windows, you should scan the saved files before putting them back on the laptop.

I Googled MBRoot/Sinowal@MBR, and found this type of malware is a trojan/rootkit/bot designed to collect banking and credit card information. Apparently new variants of this type of infection often escape detection and are hard to get rid of using regular antivirus and antimalware software, nor will using Firefox or Chrome provide any protection against infection. The infection is usually acquired visiting an everyday website, not one normally considered risky.

Those who find their computer has been infected are advised to check for suspicious activity in bank and credit card accounts and change their passwords. Since it can make a PC into part of a botnet, isogonic's advice to disconnect the infected PC from the Internet was also sound.

These web pages discusses the detection and removal methods that work for some variants:

    http://en.kioskea.net/faq/5590-sinowal-mebroot-mbr-rootkit-infection

    http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=76965.0

(Note aswMBR.exe mentioned in link #2 is another detection tool from Avast)

[Edit] Since they reside in the Master Boot Record, normal HDD reformatting methods don't completely get rid of them. Nasty.
