Hi there!
I am capturing video via my Dazzle DVC I. But when i burn them to a CD-R as a VCD format my standalone DVD-Player doesn't play them. But when i burn them to CD-RW,dvd player plays them perfect. It is Sony but i cannot remember the model. But i bought it 2 years ago.. why can this be?

CD-R and CD-RW use different chemicals
CD-RW has a higher reflectivity. It looks more like a DVD than CD-R.
Most Sony Drives dont' play VCD because sony owns a huge motion picture concern. -

DVD drives without this capability are cheaper to produce and presumably this is the reason why many DVD players (not just Sony) can't read CD-R/W properly.
As it turns out CD-RW happens to be more compatible on DVD drives not designed to read CD-R/W which is probably why it but not CD-R works on your player.

I have a Sony dvd player as well and it plays CD-RW's perfectly but has so far rejected any CD-R that I've tried with it which makes me wonder; Are there any CD-R brands (colours) out there that have similar reflective properties as a typical CD-RW that MAY work in this player and others like it?
