Converting OGM and MKV

I have an OGM file I want to convert, and have tried MoKgVm2DVD, but I keep getting the error message that the program couldn't find the file container, and I can't figure out what that means. All I want to do is be able to convert OGMs and MKVs to be playable on stuff like Quicktime.

You could always try avidemux also, open mkv/ogm, under video and audi choose copy, save as a mp4.

VLC will play the file.

Ok, that seems to have gotten me what I've wanted here. For now I don't have anymore questions. Thanks both of you for your help!

Please excuse my bumping this thread; I thought it'd make more sense than starting a new one.

I'm trying to use avidemux to convert an MKV, but when I open it in the program I get this message: "H.264 detected. If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering. Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but you will lose frame accuracy. Do you want to use that mode?" If I say "No", it makes the program window go beyond my screen and the preview picture from the file is just bright green and doesn't even change when I scroll through the file. If I say "Yes", I'll lose frame accuracy. Any suggestions? I would covert this with MPEG Streamclip but it moves terribly slowly with this file, and ffmpegX won't recognize the file at all.

Frame accuracy is a term often used for the accuracy when selecting a segment to make cuts,
which may require the in and out point to be I-frames.
If the AviDemux developers mean the same thing, and if you are not editing/cutting,
then I don't think the frame accuracy is something to worry about.

Well, I just tried it with saying "Yes" to the question, but the video is still one bright green screen, and when I exported it and tried to open the file with Quicktime, it said it couldn't open the file and that it contained some invalid data. (I copied video and audio in avidemux and converted to MP4. The file had no extension when finished so I added ".mp4" so my computer wouldn't think it was just a document file) I wonder if it's just not possible for avidemux to open this file, at least the version I have (and I think I have the latest one for my OS, 10.4). If that's the case, I really am stuck on what to do.

I'm uploading a screenshot of the video's specs, if it helps.

Have you tried Handbrake?

Handbrake never does MKV or OGM for me. My version is 0.9.1, so maybe there's a better version I don't have? Whatever it is, it'd have to be for OSX 10.4 or lower.
