    Greetings all,
I've been beating my head against the wall for a couple of days now and I bet some of you can help. . .

Sorry if this gets a bit wordy.

My son took his X-box and moved to the attic with a giant new TV, and left us poor parents in the living room with nothing but over the air digital and a dangling Ethernet cable. So we need a new streaming device to watch netflix.

I purchased an LG BD630 as a nice combo replacement for the parental uses of the x-box with the added feature of being able to stream YouTube right to the tv. None of the online reviews mentioned any installation problems other than needing to run a firmware update, so I figured I was golden.

When I plugged the box up it came right up on screen, and wanted to run it's firmware update, so I let it. The update ran over 20 minutes, but completed successfully.

I tried entering the netflix ESN into our netflix account , but Netflix rejected the number as invalid (I tried many variations of case, and subsets, and prefixes).

So I decided to try out the YouTube widget. YouTube came up in the "worldwide" locale, and displayed thumbnails of the most watched videos. When I select one of the thumbnails, the info panel is populated with the details of the video, and the screen shows a lovely animation of a flashing circle of balls. And keeps showing it. And then times out

When I try to access Netflix or any of the other services it times out when the widget tries to load.

When I do the network set-up it connects successfully, and indicates that there is internet access. If I run the test it completes successfully.

If I hook the x-box back up it works fine. Plays games and streams videos no problem.

If I hook up a laptop it works fine. Streams with no problems.

I would say that there's no internet - except that the YouTube widget pulls in thumbnails and descriptions.

    SO here's the odd bit.

As part of my diagnostic saga I replaced the hardware with an identical unit (same problem) and also picked up a brand new Sony BDP-S280 which also failed to connect to the internet.
In the case of the Sony it would also get an IP address, but not actually download any video. It would also freeze after about a minute of operation, hang for about 5 minutes, then the screen would go dark, reset to a swoosh pattern, and come back right where it left off. Until I turned off DHCP hosting on my router. With the DHCP disabled, the machine would stay live, (but wouldn't connect to the internet even with a static IP)
I've also tried the LG unit with a static IP, and a static DNS server, but no soap.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Vince

I had a similar issue. You don't enter the ESN. Go to the home menu and select NetCast. Then select Netflix. It asked me if I was already a member. I said yes and then it provided me with the access code. I entered the access code at the netflix website and I can stream Netflix now.

Hope this helps - I registered just to respond to your post after finding it while trying to fix my problem.
