My PC has a DVD+R DL drive. I'd like to to save some WMV files to a DVD.

    1. Will it record to DVD+R DVDs, or only to DVD+R DL DVDs?

    2. If I record to a DVD+R DL DVD, will others who don't have a DVD+R DL drive be able to play the DVD on a PC or MAC?

    3. Will a DVD+R or DVD+R DL DVD play on a standalone DVD player (i.e. one connected to a TV)?

    Thanks,
    Lis7

    Yes

Yes, as long as they have the correct software to play the type of video file on the disc's.

It depends on the standalone player and if it will play the type of files you have on the disc.

It would be cheaper and easier to just use single layer dvdr's.

1/ Writers with dual layer capability will also write to single layer discs.
2/ All DVD drives can read dual layer discs. No universal guaranties for writable discs, but I haven't seen one that couldn't yet. Maybe the oldest generation of drives were different, from before there were DL blanks -- if those drives are still around.
3/ All DVD players can read dual layer discs. The specification for set top DVD players does not require reading writable discs, SL or DL, but almost every player sold is sensitive enough to read those discs. The player manual should state what sort of discs it can handle. Some set stop players may have trouble with some writable discs. Single layer discs may work in more players.

Note that the quality of the media seems to be more important for reliable playback.
