I'm experimenting a bit with FAVC to generate a DVD using .avi files. When it goes through its encoding step on the videos HCenc pops up a box saying it can't load ffdshow and asks if I want to load it or not. There are four options listed and the default is not to load it so that is what I have been selecting. Is that the thing to do or should I instruct HCenc to load it?

Just for a giggle, I downloaded the latest version (self-extracting exe) and run it on a sample avi.
I did not see any message re ffdshow. The FAVC frontend only has two requirements, avisynth and net framework, both of which I already have on my system.
So I have no clue on what you are seeing and, to be frank, if it is working for you then you should not worry about it either. -
Any suggestions on how to uninstall this program? It was great the one time it worked but after three tries using the same settings and only getting 0kb files for my pains (and waiting a long time for that) I want this junk off of my computer. Do I just simply trash the FAVC folder?

Before you delete the folder - that is all it does take - you may wish to take a step back and elaborate on your experience of the program "Only getting 0kb files" does not provide a lot of enlightenment.
Source file paramters , codecs used etc may help
You appear from the US so I will assume that your target is a NTSC dvd but are the source files also ntsc ?
What program settings are you using ?
The more info you provide, the better chance you have to solve the problem.
Unless you have already made your mind up that the program is 'junk'. Your words not mine. -
Thanks DB83.
Yes these are all going NTSC. The source files are .avi files converted from .flv files with Freemake. The videos are using the H264 codec. All parameters on all the videos are identical i.e, bitrate, fps, video codecs, etc. The thing is last week I used four videos downloaded and converted in the same way and the DVD burned without issue. Now even trying to burn a DVD with just one of the files causes FAVC to go through the lengthy process of producing the files it needs to generate a DVD but when it is done the folders are empty or if it is an iso it is 0kb and no image burning program will load it. ImgBurn keeps saying it is too small to be a proper iso and Nero simply won't load it. I've changed none of the HuENC settings from the first time, it just won't write a useable file and judging from some of the posts I've read in other forums (and this one) I'm not the first to have this issue. -
OK. But you still do not answer the question in a way that will help to provide assistance. "All the videos have the same parameters" is as long as that piece of string that I am presently holding.
If EVERYTHING was the same then you would not have such issues. Something is different. That should be obvious.
Do you still, for example, still see that warning about ffdshow that you previously mentioned ?
You may wish to consider uploading a small example of your source file in both flv and the H264 avi. Or atleast the media info report but the final file(s) will be better. -
So you're taking a flv, which is probably already bad quality, then further reducing its quality by converting it to avi. Then you are again converting that avi to dvd? Since quality is obviously not your primary concern, why not just convert your flv to dvd in one step with freemake which you said you are already using anyway?

@DB83 yes I am still getting the ffdshow dialogue box. I appreciate your trying to help but I've given ConvertXtoDVD a go in the meantime and I believe it will serve my needs and it appears to do a really good job. Hence, I don't think I will bother trying to run the issue to ground with FAVC. Thanks anyway though.
@marioval well yes and no. You see initially the plan was to convert the flv to avi files and burn them to a disc but the woman I was doing this for had an older player that wouldn't load the avi files. Consequently the conversion to DVD standard came into play. The flv files were of such bad quality to begin with that using the avis to make the DVD really didn't bother me that much. Video quality wasn't the foremost concern here as you observed. -
No probs. But it is yet another topic which does not have an end play. Another member stumbling across this topic will form, probably incorrectly, an opinion that FAVC is not up to task. An opinion I do not agree with btw.
Just to enlarge on this, in the time I have awaited your response I made two dvds with FAVC and both of these used H264/AVC codecs. I can not recall the codec with the original sample - it may have been DV.
For both of the H264/AVC samples HCenc invoked ffdshow automatically - no dialague box. Both dvds were created without issue. But I still do not think that ffdshow is the problem since you have stated that your first dvd was created without it.
What I will add is this. I did not create an iso. I did not invoke imgburn - I prefer to use that manually from the created folders.
My gut feeling remains that the problem is with your source files. If you do not wish to share any information about those then it is your perogative.
