    Not looking for a bells and whistles thing, just something that works.

    I have WinXP Sp3.

    I looked at the tools section here and found a few freeware ones like Zoom player, DAPlayer etc, but they didn't work for me.

    Any suggestions...

    Media Player Classic plus DScaler 5 works fine over here.

    I strongly second Baldrick's suggestion. VLC uses its own internal codecs which means that if it doesn't work on your PC something is seriously wrong with your PC.
