Hey guys,
there is a a very important video that I recoreded yesterday. Unfortunately the camera I was recording with, dropped out of my hands and fall onto the ground.
Despite of that, the file was saved in to my SD-Card, but is not playable, since the camera had not the opportunity to shut down regularly, but through the crash with the ground.
Because the Video will proof my innocence, it is important for me to repair it.
I looked up different threads of persons searching for the same solution... but the most repair tools are for avi-files (I haven't even found one tool for MP4).
I tried to convert the damaged file with "MP4Cam2AVI" to an avi-file, but unsuccesfully.
I get the error: "moov atom not found".
My Camera also saves for every MP4 file, an THM file. But there was not THM-file created for the damaged MP4.
Can anybody help me with any suggestion. I would be very thankful.
And please, feel free to correct any spelling and grammatical mistakes I made.
greetz,
George

Upload the file where we can download it. The process is usually far to complicated to explain and their is no decisive solution.
-
Some have had luck with the utility posted here: http://grauonline.de/cmsimple2_6/en/?Solutions:HD_Video_Repair_Utility
Have a known good sample from the device; the utility uses it to reconstruct the bad file. -
I very would like.
But the material is far too aggressive and violent, that I cannot just upload it, for the protection of the people involved.
Fortunately my inocence is already believed, but the video would be the ultimate proof.
Since I am the only one which posseses the material, I would be the only one to blame, if this gets online. I would be in serious trouble.
Therefore the only way I see to get the job done is:
1. Finding tools to repair it myself or
2. Find a cooperative and discrete company to work with, which could legally guarantee their discretion.
The content is so embarassing, that certain unstable personalities in this video would get endangered to kill themselves if this video gets around. I can't jeopardize it.
Sorry if this sounds a little bit mysterious. But seriously, I never imagined to see anything like this in my life.
The video is about a relative of mine, freaking completely out. And when I say completely, I mean 100000%, like the little girl in the movie "The Exorcist". That's scaring and weird shit.
If this gets online, it will get around the world.
Does anyone of you own such a company, which guarantees discretion? Or does anyone know such a company?
On the other hand I already tried the tool "All Video Fixer" from this site:
http://www.realconvert.com/
Didn't work.
I am trying it again right now, and then I am going to use the "Grau GbR" Tool.
Sorry guys for discomforting you... -
I've never seen any free programs except the utiltiy I posted above. Seems as if the author has done the community a service
by providing it. I used it to repair a posters video a few weeks ago. Open it up, load your bad file, and if you have a good sample
from the same device, load it with "choose reference movie", then hit the scan button. -
Do a google search for "how to repair a damaged mp4 file". The manual solution usually involves a hex editor. I also don't see what you have tried to play it with. Did you try VLC media player?

When you check the size of the file on the SD card, does it seems correct? How long is it?
When you copy the file to the pc, it could be truncated, so it's better to try a recovery on the SD card. Put the SD card in read-only mode to be sure.
Here is what I posted in another thread, that solve my problem:
I had BIG troubles with several Kingston SD 16GB class 10 cards. After 40 min of filmwith a Panasonc HDC-SD700 the cards becomes corrupt and the camera refuses to film. On the pc the SD cards were unreadable, =corrupted.
The SD-card contains MTS and JPG files, unreadble.
How to solve:
I searched a lot and found a free program that does the job.
Do not format or wathever the cards
Use testdisk-6.11.3.win : it does miracles, it recovered my 3 SD cards completely !!!!!
install, start it, and choose the right letter for your USB/SD card, then choose full and FAT32 or something right for your case.
http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/TestDisk-PhotoRec.html
http://www.4shared.com/file/Vy_URbxz/testdisk-6113win.html
http://www.filestube.com/dd6fce3e2f54cad403e9,g/testdisk-6-11-3-win.html
This copied and recovered the file from SD card to my pc. The SD card remaions untouched. -
I wanted to thank you all for your comments.
I finally used the tool from www.grauonline.de.
It costed me 35 €, but it worked. With the licence I bought I still have 4 Videos left, which I could repair. But I am sure I won't use them anymore. So, if anyone searches for a way to repair his video and does not want to spend money, just contact me... I would surely help, by using the 4 Videorepairation my licence provides.
greetings,

$$$ before it ran .

@ soigroeg... can you send me one licence please
in the mean time I'll try to fool the application to repair the whole broken file for free, I'll simply use some Hex editor to double the raw data /leaving the header and footer intact/...... I think that might work
I'll keep you guys informed
wating from you soigroeg -
ypiiiiiiiii.... I recovered the whole file for free
doubling the file trick did work perfectly
try it guys..... -
Hey! How would I go about doubling the raw data in a hex editor? I've got one downloaded, but I have no clue what I'm doing! Please help!

Just for clarification, because I am getting Emails requesting Keys.
It is not possible to "send" keys. With the key (license) I purchased, I just could activate my grau repair program on my computer for 5 repairs.
Thus it is only possible to repair files, which are located on my computer. I hope I don't get redundant here.
So. There is still 1 license left. For everybody who wants a repair, you have to upload your broken file, altogether with a working sample, and send me the link, so I can download it and repair it on my computer.
I understand that it's uncomfortable to send your private files, but there is no other way. (At least I don't know another way).
If you agree with that, do as I told you, and send me the links. If you don't, go purchase the grauonline software key. It works, so it should be worthy.
Greetings.

Hi anuradlha
Laying aside that you dig up an old thread, you could try to get the file repaired by your own using MP4repair.org. Or at least know whether your file could be repaired. Best of luck!
