  1. real 3D blurays work 100% fine

But I have this 3D m2ts on my ps3's hardrive that does not trigger the 3D mode.

All I get is 2 side by side images.

I do not have a 3dtv to know for sure. However what I have read about it is there should be a way to manually enable 3d from a side by side image. Check your 3d setup to look for manual manipulation.

    - this would be in your tv menu not the ps3.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

You might have to "try all that shit" again. Seriously...

When faced with a true 3DBlu-ray, the 3d-capable BD player (or PS3 or software) would decode the SSIF (MVC) -which it KNOWS is 3D- and re-composite the image into the HDMI 1.4 "FramePacking" format. This has auxilliary signaling data which tells the 3D tv to automatically switch over to 3D mode.

When you're watching an MKV, M2TS, AVI, Divx, WMV, or any other file (also when you're watching current 3D cable/sat/TV channels), UNLESS IT'S A STEREO-AWARE PLAYER (like Peter Wimmer's Stereoscopic Player) as far as the player is concerned, it's just another 2D file/stream. The only thing that makes it end up 3D is the 3DTV's final "understanding" of how to present this.
But, since the player doesn't understand it to be 3D, it doesn't do anything different to the signal when outputting to HDMI, and doesn't apply the auxilliary data, so the 3DTV CANNOT know to automatically switch over.

Now, I've yet to see a 3DTV that DOESN'T have some sort of manual mode switch. Check your manual or the manufacturer's website. I've already easily Googled Panasonic, Samsung & Mitsubishi's sites and found answers in less than 5 minutes. Keep looking; you'll find it.
