    I have a Canon LEGRIA HF R16.
My mts -files shows well in windows medie player and others. But any conversion tool can't convert without loss or flicker.
I have tryed Pinnacle, Windows Live Movie Maker, Free HD Converter, Super and many others.

The only thing which works is PIXELA making BLuray disk - but this is m2ts files, which I have the same problems with.
And PIXELA does not make transissions etc

I dont want to pay for MAGIX or others if they cannot do the conversion.

It would be nice to edit the mts/m2ts files

Anyone have luck with loss-free conversion. And a decent editor
I have places a test file from my Canon here: www.vbg6.dk/canon/orig.mts
And the result from Windows Live Movie Maker here: www.vbg6.dk/canon/test.wmv

    Yours raketten!

i use Multiavchd...its fantastic...doesn't have an editor per se but it does do m2ts files easily...used a sony hd cam last year and converted some m2ts files and it worked perfect...i grabbed the ts file u uploaded but it was too short for multiavchd to see...i think it needs like 8 to seconds to see so i couldnt do anything with it

i can play the wmv in Splash Pro and it works ok but in standard mode it shows the video small...if i open the unencoded mts file u uploaded it shows it large...i think you need to stay away from WMM....try Multiavchd...works way better

I have successfully used AVIDEMUX version 2.6 to do some basic editing on mts and mt2s files.

May I ask what format/container are you converting into?

Which ever is your output container, for better quality try two pass encoding with a high bit rate.

I have tryed several containers: mp4, wmv, avi and many different settings. But even the results is not that bad, I can see differences. The movie is not as stable as the original, and/or the picture is a little bit distorbed.

I have not tried avidemux, i give it a try.

    Hi

The support for AVCHD at the moment is terrible. I have a panasonic SD600 and have a load of 1080p 50fps footage. I want to leave it in this form. Vegas doesn't seem to be able to join this stuff properly and tsmuxer (which is called by multiavchd I think) results in audio sync issues. I have spent days trying to get tsmuxer to join my files together without sync issues and I've given up.

tsmuxer has a box for the delay in ms but thats not much use to me as its not easy to calculate. I did find a good program to demux and join at the same time without audio sync issues called ac3to and this works fine. The only potential problem I have with it is that its command-line based and it reports a load of warnings when working. The end result is good however.

I also found a good program which is still in development I think which extracts the tiemcode information and creates an srt file from the results. I coouldn't get my media player to play the subtitles which I muxed into the joined m2ts file however and to get the subtitles to work as expected I had to use mkvmerge to take the 264, ac3 and srt file and merge them into an mkv which works flawlessly.

I believe there a few non-free programs that work with m2ts files (50p) but nothing free works well.

    HTH

I have a Canon HG 20 Vixia camcorder which saves files as .MTS files. I can convert them using a free software download called Format Factory. www.formatoz.com

@raketten. I've downloaded the 30 day trial version of Power Director 9 and it worked seemlessly! I'm definitely looking to buy the software now. I use Windows Vista 64 bit OS with 12 gigs of ram and I'm completely stoked about finding this software. Thanks again raketten.

    Hi vsndesigns,
I am also very pleased with power director. I is easy, have pan and zoom on video, slowmotion, overlays etc. and best of all: it makes very good exports from clips made of canon mts files. Its also very fast i think!

    Hi Raketten,

I'm still trying to figure out how to trim and edit some of my video in PowerDirector 9 but I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out. So far I've save my m2ts file, which is the designation type when I import my video from my canon hg20 vixia using pixela image maker software that came with the camera, as a avi file and a quicktime mov file. The mov file, while being much larger (12 gigs as opposed to 7 gigs) than the avi file, definitely has a greater resolution to it. I still haven't taken the plunge and bought Power Director 9 yet, but I'm pretty sure I will. The trial version leaves a little watermark at the beginning of my avi file.

I have a Canon Legria HFR16. I also use PIXELA to save the files to PC. These files are .mts files HD resolution 1920x1080.
    I record in 24p mode.
I import these files in Power Director 9, edit them, and save them as h.264AVC with these options
    - 1920x1080 24Mbps
    - PAL
    - SVRT
    Try that!

    Not 24p mode. I mean pf25!
BUT!! I just found out, that 50i gives much better video when somthing moves!! (I thought - from the manual - that PF25 should be the best...)
