I have an 8GB TS file for a soccer game. I can't transfer it to my portable HD because the drive is formatted FAT (if I remember correctly) so I can transfer files on a Mac or PC (although I almost always work on a Mac sometimes I need to use the drive at work on a PC). I have Split and Concat but the program won't split into 2 4GB files, giving me an error message that the output size is too large. When I import into MPEGStreamclip, I see the straight line in the middle of the screen that one sees when the Quicktime component is not installed (which isn't the case).

Is there a way to split the TS file into 2 so I can transfer it to my portable HD?

Is there a way to split the file so each part will be viewable on its own with a media player (AC Ryan in this case)? And can I do that without re-encoding this file (i.e., lowering the overall quality)?

Try tsmuxer, under split can you split by size.

Thanks for the reply. There is actually an updated version that works with Snow Leopard, but folks need to read the Read Me text file about removing some fonts.

I have a question about this program. It split my file into 4GB sizes, which is great, but when I open any file except the first part with VLC, the first part opens as well. Is there something I should do in the settings or preferences so each part is read as its own new part? That is, I don't want to split strictly for the purposes of transfer, although that is the most important thing, but basically to have each part be its own free-standing TS file. Thanks.

Are you using MPEPStreamclip on a PC or MAC? If it is the PC you can get Quicktime Alternative version 1.81 (only) as freeware. On the MAC you need to buy the MPEG2 plugin from Apple - I think it is about US$18. If you don't need to actually see where you are splitting then MPEGStreamclip will actually do that without the plugin so I read on another forum, but I haven't tried that myself.

I'm working with a MAC. I have the quicktime plug-in and MPEGStreamclip works fine for other uses (other than some problems posted in another thread about data breaks). But MPEGStreamclip isn't working with the TS files I have. TSMuxer worked, but as I wrote above, there are some problems post split.
